Comment What TFS Leaves Out (Score 1) 429

The reactor casing has corroded down to 3/8 of an inch, but was not continuing to corrode. That 3/8 of an inch corresponds to the stainless steel layer within the casing, and thus is resistant to the boric acid corrosion. Now, stainless steel WILL corrode over time, but at a much slower rate. TFS makes it seem like if the corrosion continued, we were only 3/8 of an inch away from a meltdown. Actually, the reactor would have continued fine until that steel casing failed somehow, which would have to be due to some other cause.

The robot would still be harming "a human", but would be doing that twice (albeit simultaneously). At least, I would hope a robot would view humans a discrete entities. The zeroth law is designed to prevent robots from harming an abstract group of humans, or even some beings representing humanity.

To me, the real loophole is defining what a human is. If humanity is only considered in the sense of "20th century homo sapiens with a specific gene sequence", then we get into more of a problem as time goes on. A single robot will keep on going, theoretically, whereas humanity will grow and change and adapt and evolve. Will WW3 be the Robot Eugenics War?

I think it's awesome she named her blog "NeverSeconds". I always remember being left hungry in middle/high school by the paltry lunches we got, to the point where I started bringing in my own every day. The worst was pizza day - you got the equivalent of one piece of pizza, a drink, and a "salad" (actually a couple pieces of lettuce and some shredded carrot). That was it. I guess it all worked out, because after the long lines, including many line-cutters, you only got about 10 minutes to eat anyhow.

My point is: school lunches suck! I fully support this girl in her efforts.
