Submission + - Google Paying Bloggers to Tout Chrome (searchengineland.com) 6

SharkLaser writes: SearchEngineLand has a jaw-dropping article on how Google is paying bloggers to tout Chrome and give positive "reviews" about the web browser. The posts usually tout how Chrome has helped small businesses but has little to none actual relation to Chrome. Search for "This Post Sponsored By Google" results in over 4300 results that write about the wonders of Chrome and contain paid links leading back to Chrome download page. Google, the company that has been fighting against paid links and "thin" content, is also violating its own webmaster guidelines by paying for links from those blogs. Last year Google penalized JC Penney, Forbes and Overstock for using them. The reviews are also displaying a video that is actually just an image leading to Chrome download page. On top of these paid blog posts, Google has been pushing Chrome by paying OEM's and shareware and freeware vendors if they bundle Chrome with their computers or setup packages.

Because they haven't sold enough WP7 to anyone to waste their time trying.

Why can you use that line when Windows is involved, but not with Linux? Every time someone says that Linux is secure because it doesn't have enough market share there is countless amount of people saying that it isn't so. Selective much?

It's relevant because the lawsuits are already about Google promoting their own services over competitor ones in search results. This move might be because they needed to move the promotion off the search results and give them space in more prominent "Google's stuff" place, or they didn't care about the investigations and just went full force promoting their own services. Regardless, it is relevant.

Comment Nokia Lumia (Score 0, Troll) 185

With Lumia falling flat in Europe Microsoft needs all the enthusiastic modding fans they can get.

Actually, Lumia is performing really well in Europe and Australia. In November it was on top of sales charts of Sweden and Australia and in December in United Kingdom, beating both Android devices and iPhone. Nokia and Microsoft did really well in Europe.

It's actually kind of funny that Slashdotters seem to be so in love with DuckDuckGo, especially considering that it uses Bing as back-end. Guess it doesn't matter if it just doesn't clearly say Microsoft somewhere in the site. Just shows that Bing actually provides good search results.

Most Microsoft's products are actual products you run on your desktop, like Windows and Office. They keep working even if Microsoft "discontinues" them. With cloud and Google stuff discontinuing them means they really are dead.
