The price of silicon taken at one moment in time is not what I meant by market price. Market price fluctuates and the silicon market is capable of large fluctuations.

I live in the Seattle area. No they are not generally capable of powering a home. Only if you pick and choose where you will evaluate the criteria, are they.

Durability is an issue when you live in the midwest where hail, ice and heavy snow can damage just about anything on your roof. You have to insure the solar panel, which then increases the cost.

Regarding you "evidence link", be careful using agendize reporting for financial information. When you are promoting an agenda you cannot really be trusted for financial prediction. Valuable finacial prediction requires an unbiased look at MANY points of view. Not just one. Especially not just one that cherry picks its stories.

The challenges for mass-adoption of solar cells having nothing to do with convenient locations to put them. Nearly all home-owners have a roof that they can access.

The challenges for solar cell adoption are:
Cost-effective manufacturing methods
The market price of silicon
Efficiency of conversion
Storing the energy for when it's required (or moving it to where it is helpful)
and Durability

When those problems are REALLY solved, we won't need to have dark windows to generate our energy needs. And we won't need to burn coal. But we're a long way from solving all of those problems.

I felt that promoting an over-priced laptop made of 7 year old hardware, only because it meets qualified for that meaning of the word. But I apologize if some felt that word was harsh. I'd thought it was well-chosen.

"Value-Added" means that a processs or resource added is worth the cost and improves the overall worth of something beyond its cost.

The story is a negative example of that concept because for a bloated cost you acheive here what could have been acheived on any other piece of hardware. So it is not value-added.

Submission + - Google Maps can now make you connect to Wi-Fi networks (google.com)

Many of these problems will be "solved" by wrongful death law suits. I don't believe even Amazon will be able to purchase enough insurance to cover themselves from these suits. Wrongful death law suits awards are usually calculated by the depth of the defendent's pockets. And when someone's child is killed by a drone falling from about 300 feet, the sympathies of the jurors will know no bound.

To add to your point, there is another very important distinction to be made in this case. When someone gets hit by a drunk driver, 99% of the time they have already conceded to engage in driving, an activity that is commonly understood to contain a bit of dandger which people generally make a choice to accept and consequently take some amount of responsibility for being alert to dangerous drivers and conditions.

But when someone's grandmother is decapitated while gardening in her backyard, we should reasonably expect that the emotional outrage is going to be quite different and understand the difference in sentiment.
