So don't pay it. My apartment tried to raise their rent by ~180/mo on me in May '09. I told them to piss up a rope. They instead lowered it by ~260/mo.

Just because they're telling you to pay more doesn't mean they aren't trying to screw you. Or, more likely, trying to screw you in order to make up what they're losing on the smarter tenants who are all paying less.

I run Click2Flash. The *only* useful implementation of Flash I ever see is for videos. So, go to Youtube, click on video, it works.

All the other Flash I run across in my daily browsing is screaming obnoxious ads.

Oh, and maybe a weird flash photo gallery on a newspaper site once a month.

Yes, it is a slight drawback that the iPad does not do Flash. Very slight.

As you said, the fools are the ones buying the product, but if its what they want, who am I to argue?

My problem is when these fools try and convince me they are not fools or worse yet try and convince non foolish people to follow their foolishness.

My problem is when fools try to convince me I'm foolish! Can't they see what fools they are?

Comment Are the trendy Mac users that dumb? (Score 1) 346

I went back to college in 2002-2006 (incidentally buying my first Mac in 2002 after 7 years of exclusive desktop Linux use, and I hate that I have to even throw in this disclaimer) and over that period for the first time noticed Macs being considered 'cool.'

Yet you give your trendy straw men (and women) too little credit. Just because they're not geeks and don't know much about computers, even if they bought a Mac because all of their friends said it was the cool thing to do, they can damn well tell you a lot of things they don't like about Windows. Ask them. I've heard it. These are the very technophobes who let their systems get overrun with spyware and adware, who got viruses while everyone on Slashdot bragged about the number of years they spent in their mom's basement *not* getting viruses (*cough*) while using XP sans AV software.

So if they're using a Mac, and it works for them, doesn't it mean their choice was justified?

I hate to think of what you think of all of the engineers using Macs.

Comment And yet, I love my iPhone (Score 0, Offtopic) 203

For all of the politics around it, I love my iPhone. I have jailbroken previous iPhones and enjoyed the benefits, but my current one is operating as Apple designed it because I didn't gain enough from jailbreaking to make it worth the effort.

I'm happy with the apps I have, I'm happy with the 3G and regular phone service, I'm happy with the UI, Google Maps integration, iPod, call history and phonebook, don't need multitasking.. I just use it, and it just works, better than any phone I've had before-- including an unholy Motorola/Microsoft abomination. Out of so many millions sold, funny to think that I'm the only one.

Sure, I guess I wish it could multitask or do those other things I don't really need. I wish it was more open. But I'm happy with it. Maybe my next phone will be something else.. or maybe the competition will make Apple improve too.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Given the pretty extensive functionality and plumbing of ZFS its probably been too much of a big ask to integrate a filesystem like that into a desktop. They might well have come to the conclusion that ZFS was simply complete overkill on a desktop and that it just wasn't possible.

Why say in 4 words what can be said, while nounning a verb, in 6?
