For a lot of these mega-successful people, it's not the beauty of the code, or the maintainabilty of it. It's having the idea that software can do something, that this something is valuable and can be used as an engine drive profits, and then getting there first. Making it as good as it can be comes much later, if ever. Seemingly not at all if you're Microsoft. Not being able to code doesn't mean that much.

Malicious, but malicious to WHOM? If they ever start blocking useful tools which "could" be used to break laws or otherwise do harm, that will be the end of Chrome.

Sure 2.0 seems like a total waste of money, but if history is any indication, Surface 3.1 will completely revolutionize computing, giving time back to users by crashing repeatedly and needing several minutes to reboot and run chkdsk.

Here's how to fix this: You quote, in total, the web page or article in question. Then, you *attribute* it to the url where you found it from, the date that you found it there, and the author/copyright holder. Now, it doesn't matter if the page changes or the site goes away. The content is preserved, the source is attributed. And, copyright troll lawyers aside, no one is harmed!

A privacy-focused browser is fine as far as it goes, but the problem is more with the network transporting data insecurely, and on the server side, where you put your trust into faceless entities that have their own interests at heart, not yours. So I don't see this helping much, if at all.

If we consider Notch as a game designer, he doesn't have to finish the implementation to have done he job well. How was Minecraft harmed by his going hands off while it was in alpha? Do we really expect his next project to be as successful as the Minecraft phenomenon?

Buying congress makes sense. If they're outspokenly against you, when you buy them, they stop doing that. It'll be fun to see if this congressman does a 180 once Google's money is up his sock hole, and starts spouting Google's corporate values as his new platform.

I bought a T61p Thinkpad in 2007, and it's still my everyday machine. I've upgraded the memory to 8GB, hard disk, replaced a keyboard, and the battery, all very economically when the prices of those components came down. I love this machine, especially its keyboard, and am loathe to give it up unless I can find another with the same layout. In particular the pgup/pgdn/home/end keys are layed out in a manner which makes them very useful and natural for navigating within a window. I wish laptop chassis were standardized enough that you could customize these sorts of components easily so you can get just exactly what you want. I'm thinking about finally upgrading sometime in the next year, but am in no hurry. I'm considering a Thinkpad T530 or a 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display. I looked at the Razer Blade Pro, but I didn't think I'd like the keyboard, and had concerns about durability (due to lack of data on that aspect and not having seen one in person to gauge how sturdy they are).
