Submission + - Data miners scraping away our privacy (correntewire.com)

Presto Vivace writes: "Twig, writing for Corrente reports on data scrapers. They are not looking for passwords and such; scrapers are looking at blogs and forums searching for material relevant to their corporate clients. We are assured that the information is “anonymized” to protect the identities of forum participants. However, a new tool, PeekYou permits users to connect online names with real world identities. No worries though, if you have a week to spare, you can opt-out of some of the larger data banks."

Submission + - Simpsons porn lands Idaho man in hot water (idahostatesman.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Reminiscent of an earlier story from Australia (http://yro.slashdot.org/story/08/12/08/1515211/Australian-Judge-Rules-Simpsons-Cartoon-Rip-off-Is-Child-Porn), an Idaho man has pleaded guilty to "possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children" after 70 pornographic drawings, which included parodies of The Simpsons, were found on his computer. Investigators apparently traced the former teacher's IP address over an unnamed peer-to-peer network (http://www.idahostatesman.com/2010/10/13/1378268/former-meridian-school-teacher.html). He faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000. Guess we can't make fun of the Aussies anymore.
