Comment cool story bro (Score 1) 241

"According to Stone and other physicists, the creation of the anti-laser -- the eggheads refer to it as a coherent perfect absorber (CPA) -- has been one of the defining technological innovations of the past century. So could this anti-laser have just as much impact on society’s future?"

Considering the source, that eggheads comment comes off as pejorative. Cool editorializing bro.

Comment Awful Headline (Score 1) 465

From the article : "Yet the finding that open-source advocates will like least is that free programs are not always cheaper. To be sure, the upfront cost of proprietary software is higher (although open-source programs are not always free). But companies that use such programs spend more on such things as learning to use them and making them work with other software.."

It may be Microsoft inspired, but this statement is hardly as inflammatory as the headline makes it out to be. In fact the entire article seemed to be as middle of the road as you can get.

Comment Apple multi touch based on keyboards (Score 1) 332

Apple's multi touch patents were acquired when they bought FingerWorks, a company who primarily made keyless keyboards. I knew someone who swore it was the best thing since sliced bread.

The keyboards go for a lot of money now on ebay since the company stopped production after they were bought.
