Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical, has announced that he will be stepping down as the CEO of Canonical. Canonical is the company behind the popular linux distro Ubuntu. The position of CEO will now be taken up by Jane Silber, the current COO of Canonical. Shuttleworth said that he will stay in the Ubuntu Community Council and Ubuntu Technical Board.

Google has turned to newspaper to advertise its browser Chrome in the UK. The advertisement appear in the Metro on 14th December. Advertisement for Chrome was also spotted in billboards. This is an interesting move from the internet advertising giant. Google has also introduced "ChromeForChristmas" to send Chrome with an e-card.

Google Chrome Extensions is now open for Windows and Linux users, but not yet available for Mac users. An AdBlock extention, however, is not yet available. Does the availability of extentions put Chrome at the risk of becoming bloated like many complain in the case of Firefox?

The recently released KDE SC 4.4 Beta 1 has introduced tabbed windows as a new feature. It is now possible to tab together windows from different applications. This looks like it will be a very good productivity tool. Like the tabbed browsers, this may well end up as a feature in all desktop environments in the years ahead.

Digitizor reports that the next generation of iPhone was spotted in the analytics log of an iPhone app, iBart. The device it seems was identified as iPhone 3.1 in the log. The last time when iPhone 2.1 was spotted, it was followed by iPhone 3G.

It seems like the Ubuntu developers consider GIMP to be too powerful for a normal desktop user. So they are removing it from the upcoming Ubuntu 10.04. This actually feels like a good reason as most people uses GIMP as a "Paint"-like software.

The guys at Digitizor.com have posted a visual tour of GNOME 3 Shell which is likely to be released in September next year. Looks like its going down the same route as KDE 4.
