Comment Re:No Plausible Deniability (Score 1) 275

Anonymous is just like the public, it contains people of all sorts. But its not a group of people with a label. It's a phenomena. It happens when assorted people, strangers, act with a common goal. For that to happen the goal needs to be known and agreed up on and to do that the vision needs to be forwarded to as many as possible. You cant be loud, even obnoxiously so, and secret at the same time. It just doesn't work. No matter what your intentions are.

If Anonymous did it, you would have heard about it at the time. Anonymous relies on a public call to arms to mobilize its sleeper agents among us. There would have been battle calls and if it was taken up by a significant number Sony would have cried foul and Anonymous would have gloated like there was no tomorrow. It didn't happen. That is all the proof it takes. Anonymous cant operate secretly, its just not possible. If there is a legion marching, you will know.

I rather think the old newspaper clippings with the birth announcement were conclusive evidence because they are dated and lock it firmly to a time when nobody knew it would matter. However I rather agree on the general principle. Its one of those things that a sane person does not give a reproductive activity about. The whole argument is a straw man. A mandate was given and used. People should really pay more attention to what is happening now rather than flogging the dead horse.

Yes, I'm aware of that meaning. Have been for some time, long since before I started using the program. Again, why would a child be offended by a rather random name overlap? All the menus list it for some time as GNU Image Manipulation Program. I've been fat all my life, I got ridiculed and called fat as a kid a lot, never did it occur to me to take offense at FAT filesystem or any other lingual overlaps for that.

Why would a disabled child be offended by a name of a program? It does not in any way pertain to their condition, its simply a label on an item and an acronym at that. Being offended that product labels is not what a disabled kid needs sure enough, but by hiding everything unseemly by your standards is not how you go about it.

Only people throwing a fit about the name are native english speakers with an uptight and narrow minded approach to languages. (5.5% of the worlds population are native english speakers, so 94.5% of the world has no namely objections:P). All you need to not give a crap about coincidental acronym overlaps with naughty words is speaking more than one language. There is always humorous overlap. Also, anyone in power in corporate world can count his dollars. You can find GIMP a lot in the corporate world, where design is not the primary goal and BSA wields a big stick but imaging is utilized for other reasons. And as you can see from the 2.7.2 splash, no sticking of the head in the sand occurs. We(well, at least I) just think the arguments presented for changing the name are rather stupid. Nobody asks you to utilize the acronym. Feel free to call it IMP, GIPro, Bella or whatever. It's still GNU Image Manipulation Program. BTW, the dominatrix in the splash is the GEGL mascot, a five legged goat.

Almost right, but don't ever buy a laptop without touching it. Specs may be nice but if the hinges are floppy new, the lid or the whole thing bends like a twig when lifted by one corner and plastic feels thin and cheap then your money is better spent elsewhere. Your machine will soon die of simple physical fatigue. And avoid HP Pavilion type huge laptops. From what I hear from people who bought theirs last year, their cooling STILL sucks and they are still prone to heat death the moment warranty runs out after a year from purchase.
