What planet are you on? this seems pretty reasonable as far as smartphones go. granted IMO they're ALL ridiculously expensive. but this seems about on par with what I would pay for an android or pre phone. (Candian Citizen here, I can't even get my hands on a pre yet, and an android device will run me about $700 CAD) I've been saving up to buy a nice smartphone outright (dont want to get locked into an expensive data plan with rogers) and was trying to decide between an HTC android phone and a Palm Pre. but this looks like it might be a better fit.

I've heard this a lot, but I've never seen any evidence of it. someone may very well be a great programmer, but the chances are equally good that they just think they're great because the people they've worked with in the past were also bad. Show me someone who programs in at least some of their free time, and its a pretty safe better that they're a lot more proficient and knowledgeable than the guy who doesn't.. and like it or not, most people would rather not take the risk hiring the strictly 9-5'er

I half agree. Firefox is not as fast as it used to be, and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I've been using ubuntu and its default firefox for as long as I can remember and i've yet to see much of a performance increase from it in each revision.

I have a (strange?) habit of reading pages by selecting the text as I go, so I hold my cursor at the bottom of the window and it sort of slowly scrolls and highlights each line as I read it. on any moderately long page, this uses 100% CPU and stutters like crazy. WHY?

on many other sites I have a very hard time selecting text at all, its just so unresponsive that it takes three or four tries just to make sure its selecting the right area. if I try to drag the selected text somewhere, and release the mouse button the text slowly slowly floats back to the original place on the page, all the while using 100% CPU.

FWIW. I have no strong feelings either way, I'm Canadian, we have our own shit government to worry about, I just find it appalling that anyone can quote 18million for a website with a straight face.. were any other companies given a change to quote on this site? its just not possible that this was the best value they could find.

Well lets assume that your credibility in my eyes currently sits at 5% (which it doesn't). regardless of how ridiculous your comment was, you didn't have a long way to drop, so yes, in both cases, "all" (5%) of your credibility is gone.

(of course this assumes that you can't have negative credibility)

FWIW, I wasn't in any way referring to the burning comment, or your reaction to it, only pointing out the fact that constantly referring to copyright infringement as theft doesn't sit well with many people.

Canada is NOT cheaper than the US for mobile service. RTFA. We are the SINGLE MOST EXPENSIVE IN THE WORLD. We get raped like you couldn't believe. I signed up for a family plan for my girlfriend and I with rogers... the CHEAPEST plan which "costs" $40, actually costs $64 after the hidden fees. tack on Voicemail and CallerID for each phone (THESE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN ALL PLANS!) and it it was just under $90. On top of that, rogers wouldn't even give me the option of getting a decent phone. Anything that qualifies as a "Data Phone" means that you are REQUIRED to have a data plan with rogers, you can't get the nice phone and just use it on your wifi for playing around/hacking. no, you have to pay $30/month IN ADDITION to your regular plan for the privilige of 1GB/month download. Criminal.. Ass... Raping.

I bought my PS3 (40GB) fully expecting it to have PS2 B/C. (yes, I didn't do my homework, but I didn't think I had to. I never in a million years would have thought Sony would release a PS3 without making it backwards compatible.) Needless to say I was quite disappointed, I would be completely willing to pay more for a "deluxe" model of some kind that had B/C. (and maybe give me back the card reader and some more USB ports too) I have a friend that was going to buy a ps3 recently and decided against it when I informed him about the lack of B/C. I wonder rhow often something like that happens and how much its affecting PS3 Sales. Either way, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would not have bought their PS3's if had known in advance that they wouldn't be able to play their PS2 games on it.
