What the summary doesn't state is that the tools are 'geared to work together to sustain a village of people anywhere in the world, using locally attainable resources and tools.' This does beg the question of who's going to manufacture the first set of these tools, but the fact that the tools are going to be sustainable is more important than the fact that they're open-source.

So when you purchase something inside an iOS app, that app has the ability to use your current iTunes login to charge money to your iTunes account? Is this a permission that's specifically noted when you download an iOS app that has this ability or can all apps do this without notification? I get that kids would probably just click through any 'You are about to be charged" notices.

Point taken. My first impression was that GGGP was caricaturing all Bible-believing folks, but he was really only caricaturing a subclass of those.

This would be flamebait if there were someone on Slashdot that took offense to it and responded in kind. Whoever edited the Wikipedia article last defines "flamebait" to be "hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users." GP and P would be insulting to folks that believe in the Bible; there are just none of them here to interact about language and Biblical manuscripts.

Every time someone mentions a bright vision for a city, I think of Le Corbusier and the Pruitt-Igoe project. It may work in principle, but there's always the potential for things to go wrong socially in a way that wasn't expected.

Of course, human nature has improved since then. Techology's prepped the world to usher in a bright new era of human achievement!
