The US is currently operating 747s with nuclear reactors hooked directly into advanced laser technology. This is the very reason that the N. Korean missles are a joke to us. This was a directed energy attack. Perhaps this was the first directed energy weapon used on a civilian target, for political, economic, testing, or some other reason.

Submission + - C++ Programming Advice for Starting Engineer 1

Bryan writes: I am a Mechanical Engineer who has been trained in the basics/intermediates of C++, but I never really learned how to make a good looking program windows, beyond well structured DOS prompts. I now find myself in an Application Engineer position and I need to be able to quickly develop good looking programs using C++ logic. I don't want to learn a new programming language, but I am not aware of any other options besides Visual Basic, and I don't even know how that works. I guess the question is, what direction should I take my programming skills? Should I get Visual Basic, or should I try a UNIX based setup, or whats the deal? I want my skills to be usable in 20+ years, so if C++ is old news, I might as well start working with a better programming language.
