Comment Use Cash for Gas (Score 1) 113

Folks:

Normally I don't drive; I don't have a car.

For those special trips where I use a car, I will go to a bank with a cash machine inside it and pull out enough cash for necessary gas for my trip.

I put that in my shirt pocket so that it's easy to reach, not my trousers pockets.

The debit card stays at home for the trip.

I have a low limit credit card (not my normal credit card). I take that. I leave all other cards at home.

At the station, I go to the story/box-office and give the cashier $40 in twenties and point to the pump. They activate it and I fill up the tank. I get the change and I am on my way. I try to get a pump that is closest to the cashier.

No risk for any skimmer as the credit card stays in my wallet and the debit card is locked up in a drawer in my home.

After I became an escaped mental patient from Intel Corporation, I learned Verilog to program and FPGA and I found it very exciting and satisfying. Because I am not looking for a job, I don't know what the market is. However, it's a fun hobby .

If you are interested, I have a project for a persistence of vision light wand. If you are in Bellingham, Washington, you may have seen me dancing in the streets with it.

If you are interested in the code, I do have it on github at Here

There is nothing wrong with being sweet 66. I turned 66 in May this year. But the state of Washington still thinks I am under 21. I still get carded! I also feel very young. I am doing a lot more stuff then i was at 33. I am making all of my own clothing now! I am also making metal and glass sculptures! I am full time docent and curator at the Spark Museum in Bellingham, Washington. I am also a star of Bellingham Television! I now have my own channel on youtube! I challenge you to look up Mark Allyn (spelled as Allyn, not Allen) and click on the guy in the colorful clothing! You will see a listing of my videos. When I was 33, I never even dreamed of doing videos and making my own clothing! My latest hobby? Year round swimming in Bellingham Bay with a wetsuit! Yes, one can be fully alive and turn around one's life at 66. Perhaps RMS can do the same as I did??

Lets put remote work places in cities such as Rumford, Maine. Rumford Maine is my mother's birthplace (that's why I am aware of it). If it were not mom's birthplace, I probably would not be aware of it.

Rumford's real estate is very cheap. It is surviving on one remaining paper mill.

it also has a quality of life that in my humble opinion (IMHO) is superior to that of San Francisco. I am will to bet there is **MUCH** less public urination in Rumford per capita than in San Francisco.

Folks: I am a clothing and metal artist. When I go to a conference, I don't bring resumes. I bring an actual metal sculpture or wear some of my home made clothing. A picture is worth a thousand words. The real thing is worth a thousand pictures. Some groups have meetings where people can give up to a one minute introduction of what they do for a business. I simply say 'I will not say much. I will pass this around and let it speak for me.' Then I hand my sculpture to the person closest to me and then sit down. My one minute session ends about 40 seconds before the bell goes off.

Please, Please, be very careful in going this direction. This can be very easily forged! Doing verifying via Fandango or some other database is easy. The server side will send queries directly to the ticketing server and verify in the backstream.

I am a volunteer at a local electronics museum. We use tesla coils and van de graf generators for demonstrations. We learned long time ago that you don't use consumer hobby grade stuff for public demonstrations. During my three year (so far) tenure there, we went through three cheap van de graf generators before settling on one that is more institutional grade; costing about twice as much. That unit is still going strong.

Same goes with tools. Please don't get me going on Harbor Freight. Put it this way. A jewelry maker told me that he will not be caught dead inside a Harbor Freight store.

Why have you all forgotten about the most important topic regarding use of lasers in public?!!!???

In case you guys are not aware, two volunteers were blinded permanently by mis-use of lasers at Burning Man two years or so ago.

That is why lasers are banned from the playa except for under very strictly controlled conditions.

Lasers above 5 millawatts are not allowed to be used outdoors except with very strict permits from the FAA and other agencies; let alone many states.

And now we want to put a constellation of laser satellites up?

Are facebook's lasers all under 5 milliwatts?

Will the entire Mt. Wilson area be completely off limits to all aircraft?

And liability? That one will be a real hornets nest!

And don't forget aircraft, spacecraft, the space station; and in fact, anyone on the ground if the aiming software or hardware has problems?

No. Sorry. I see this as a no-go on laser safety alone!
