The fast discharge times and battery life aren't the same thing. These batteries are able to discharge quickly because they are able to supply more amps than previous batteries. They are capable of outputting all of their energy in 10 seconds. That doesn't mean they will only last 10 seconds. Usually you wouldn't need the maximum power from the battery so it would last much longer, but there is a lot of overhead for when you do need the power.

I think it is a little more black and white than you paint it to be. If ISPs had a reasonable uplink they wouldn't have quite the issues. It really doesn't take an enormous amount of capacity to support people's connections at even 5Mbs. From my time at Georgia Tech I got to see a good bit about the network. For starters they had gigabit to most dorms and 100mb to the rest. Considering that it is a technology based school usage would be much higher than normal. With around 8000 students in dorms the max usage over the entire year was only 1Gbps. The average was 350Mbps. To say that it would be hard for an ISP to support typical users at 5Mbs seems naive. They would just have to actually put a little money into their infrastructure.

That would be easy to get around as well. Just append junk to the end of the domain. Such as:

www.paypal.com/foo/bar/...341/do.myevildomain.com/?page=securelogin&more=ramdomcrap&people=fallforanything

Then the domain would not be visible and we are back to square one.

I doubt it as ISPs would just add any content they had to pay for as a new "fee" on your bill, and make more money off of that.

There is no reason for these to be on the internet, so apple can't do anything to them. It looks like they just found a cheap system capable of crunching some numbers with a good interface.

The only times I have had an issue with that was with an older phone. If I ever called my voicemail to check, they were there, but the phone never alerted me to them.

The assumption is that if you continue paying for your service the following month, you agreed to the change in contract, thus creating a new contract.
