Essentially 2k is to XP what Vista is to 7, a slightly unmet design goal which would be finished in the next release, except that 2k was an improvement over NT, even if it wasn't what Microsoft had set out to do, and Vista was just an unfinished pig.

Granted 2K had some driver issues in the beginning but once those were fixed I found it to be much better than XP. I was running 2K until just around two years ago. I finally went to XP because I got tired of dealing with some software I wanted to run that had to be on XP due to DRM requirements.and Vista had so many issues and I wanted to see how 7 ended up. I have Win 7 for work and one of my home systems now.

2K was by far better when compared to XP than Vista was at release compared to 7.

... just how strong the magnetic field is, for it to affect the hard drive of a computer at any likely distance. It seems like metal objects would be flying through the air and sticking to the floor. Also, I have to wonder how a static magnetic field would affect most phones. Seems there would have to be an alternating field of some sort to do so. Finally, any links to the 'numbers' (field strength, gauss, whatever the proper term is)?

I would think that for a magnetic field of the magnitude claimed tesla would be the appropriate measurement. 10,000 gauss= 1 tesla.

Vista was a great idea with horrendous execution.

Win 7 was the extra few years of planning and execution that Vista needed.

True, but how many years had Longhorn/Vista already been delayed by the time it was released? Don't get me wrong, I think 7 is by far the best OS to come out of Redmond. But I have to wonder how much better it looked after the abomination that was Vista.

I know: "Don't complain about lack of options."
But vista/7 should be in two separate options...

ME and 2K even more so. ME was the bastard stepchild of 98. 2K was a rewrite of Windows. XP was just 2K with added window dressing (OK a little more than that, but it was basically 2K) and DRM added. If they're going to lump Vista and 7 together then 98, 98SE and ME should be as well as 2K and XP.

The iPhone 4S isn't available to buy, it's not even available to pre-order yet. But Samsung managed to get ahold of one, reverse engineered it, and found it to infringed on their patents. Impressive.

The way Apple employees tend to lose prototypes of the iPhone at bars, it can't be that hard to get one.

Congratulations...you're apathy is deep enough to drown in. Not only that, but this is precisely why these companies a) do this, and b) get away with this.

While on one hand I totally agree with you, I also don't really want to live in a uni-bomber style shack/lifestyle. Frankly you are either too young/naive and are sponging off of your parents or are talking out of your ass. There is no way in hell you can be a productive well adjusted member of society (not that I'm sure this is that great of a thing, but I digress)and truly be fighting all of the injustices in the world. OnStar knowing exactly where I am in my car is an annoyance at best, but is still pretty far down on my list of world problems right now. Hell, as ubiquitous as cell phones have become, how may companies/gov't agencies know exactly where you are currently?

I own a 2003 GM vehicle and I know f that the previous owner upgraded the OnStar system when they changed over from analog to digital. I've often wondered about how this works and if they can still track the car. Even knowing they are, I'm not sure I really care. I guess on a theoretical level it's annoying, But I have too many other things to worry about to get worked up over this. Actually, I've wondered if there is some kind of liability for them if they are still tracking my car w/o their service. If I get in a wreck and even though I don't have their service, can they be held accountable if they are still tracking me and choose withhold assistance? Honestly I assumed that they wouldn't want to have this kind of liability.
