Comment Re:THROW AWAY YOUR OLD AND BUY THE NEW !! (Score 1) 293

Sure, but I bought my crappy TV after 2006 and it is nice that even if my PS3 were to break I don't need to worry about the new standard. Now Cable-ready (or whatever it is called) is evil. The connection between the digibox/set top box is indeed HDMI, but most of the high resolution programs cannot be shown, because the machine doesn't support some kind of registration.

US, Germany To Enter No-Spying Agreement 209

itwbennett writes "The German Federal Intelligence Service said in a news release that the U.S. has verbally committed to enter into a no-spying agreement with Germany. The no-spying agreement talks were announced as part of a progress report on an eight-point program proposed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in July with measures to better protect the privacy of German citizens. In the progress report, the German government found that U.S. intelligence services comply with German law. Also, the operators of large German Internet exchanges and the federal government did not find any evidence that the U.S. spies on Germans, the government said."

The Russians are pissed enough to harbour Snowden.

The Russians aren't pissed about anything special - they're just harboring him to annoy and embarrass the US.

I'm guessing they don't want to appear to be following instructions from the US. And giving Snowden to the US might also be seen as supporting the snooping (whether or not they do it themselves on the same scale). Annoying and embarrassing may also be factors, but is perhaps less valuable to them..

Not sure if a serious question (especially considering the next comment by Russ1642), but in WPF images get scaled as well. For better results it may be a good idea to provide higher resolution bitmaps to be used in high dpi cases. Alternatively you could override the scaling, but that might not make sense as the images/icons would stay a bit small...

On QT-side there is the possibility to use @2x images (double res images, which will be scaled down as required).

Snowden Claims That NSA Collaborated With Israel To Write Stuxnet Virus 491

andrewa writes "In an interview with Der Spiegel Snowden claims that the NSA, amongst other things, collaborated with Israel to write the Stuxnet virus. Not that this is news, as it has been suspected that it was a collaborative effort for some time. When asked about active major programs and how international partners help, Snowden says: 'The partners in the "Five Eyes" (behind which are hidden the secret services of the Americans, the British, the Australians, New Zealanders and Canadians -- ed.) sometimes go even further than the NSA people themselves. Take the Tempora program of the British intelligence GCHQ for instance. Tempora is the first "I save everything" approach ("Full take") in the intelligence world. It sucks in all data, no matter what it is, and which rights are violated by it. This buffered storage allows for subsequent monitoring; not a single bit escapes. Right now, the system is capable of saving three days’ worth of traffic, but that will be optimized. Three days may perhaps not sound like a lot, but it's not just about connection metadata. "Full take" means that the system saves everything. If you send a data packet and if makes its way through the UK, we will get it. If you download anything, and the server is in the UK, then we get it. And if the data about your sick daughter is processed through a London call center, then ... Oh, I think you have understood.'"
