"He says 'if your reaction to this crate of magic is "Hm. I wonder how we'd go about suing someone who 'did this' with our IP?" instead of, "Holy crap, clearly, this is the freaking future of entertainment," it's probably time to put some ramen on your Visa and start making stuff up for your LinkedIn page."

Hi:

Circuit City had the worst customer service of any the electronic stores.

Even when you got help they were idiots. I won't shed a tear for them, especially
when their competitors do a better job.

I am just waiting for the liquidation sale.

When Does Powering Down Servers Make Sense? 301

snydeq writes "Powering down servers to conserve energy is a controversial practice that, if undertaken wisely, could greatly benefit IT in its quest to rein in energy costs in the datacenter. Though power cycling's long-term effects on server hardware may be mythical, its effects on IT and business operations are certainly real and often detrimental. Yet, development, staging, batch processing, failover — several server environments seem like prime candidates for routine power cycling to reduce datacenter energy consumption. Under what conditions and in what environments does powering down servers seem to make the most economic and operational sense, and what tips do folks have to offer to those considering making use of the practice?"

Submission + - Good books on programming threads

uneek writes: Hello: I have been programming for several years now in a variety of languages, most recently C#, Java, and Python. I have never had to use threads for a solution in the past. Recently I have been incorporating them more in my solutions for clients. I understand the theory behind them. However I am looking for a good book on programming threads from an applied point of view. I am looking for one or more texts that provide thorough coverage and provide meaningful exercises. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
