As long as a Gay man can do what a straight man can do (marry someone of the opposite sex) then they have the same rights. The blacks and so on were actually barred from marrying into interracial marriages at one time which is completely different then gay marriage.

... what?

As long as a black man can do what a white man can do (marry someone of the same race) then they have the same rights.

how is that completely different?

It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Jack Thompson Disbarred, Permanently (gamepolitics.com) 1

BrianRaker writes: Thanks to GamePolitics for breaking the story, it looks like the Florida Supreme Court has affirmed Jack Thompson's permanent disbarment from practicing law. This change takes place in 30 days, and will prohibit him from practicing law, or ever reapplying to the bar, for ever.

Of course, Jack rebutts with his typical "Now The Fun Begins" rhetoric. Will this really be the end of Jack Thompson? We can only hope so, but my Magick 9-Ball says "Signs point to No".

Submission + - Hard drive prices drop from PC, flash drive demand (computerworld.com)

Lucas123 writes: "The average price of notebook hard drives tumbled to $53 in the third quarter of 2007, from $86 in the same period during the previous year, according to a survey by a market research firm. The price drop can be accredited to competition among six vendors, enormous demand for PCs and consumer electronics as well as evolving flash memory drives. "Lower-capacity notebook drives showed smaller price drops, while newer high-capacity drives saw massive price drops.""

Submission + - Hushmail spills mail to Feds

An anonymous reader writes: A September court document reveals that Hushmail turned over emails to American authorities of targeted individuals, suspected in illegal steroid trafficking. Due to the fact that Hushmail saves their clients' emails encrypted using standard public key cryptography, they had to actively cache their customers' private keys and use them to send the Feds decrypted emails.

Submission + - How to Fix Fragmented Social Networking 2

An anonymous reader writes: Anyone familiar with Slashdot, Netflix, del.icio.us, flickr, Last.fm, etc knows that social networking at these sites (sharing / commenting) happens in isolation. Submission + - RIAA loses counterclaim lawsuit (blogspot.com)

An anonymous reader writes: This is the case in which the Court had sustained 5 of the 6 counterclaims interposed by Ms. Del Cid.

The court sustained defendant's counterclaims for

-trespass to defendant's personal property based on the RIAA's having accessed files on Ms. Del Cid's computer without her permission,
-violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act based on the RIAA's unauthorized intrusion into defendant's computer,
-violation of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act,
-a declaratory judgment of non-infringement, and
-conspiracy to commit extortion, since defendant sufficiently alleged "a peculiar power of coercion possessed by Plaintiffs [by] virtue of their combination, which an individual alone would not possess".

Submission + - A New Map of the Internet. 1

An anonymous reader writes: A series of maps have been created that show the geographical structure and distribution of the Internet. This is the first time a global, geo-spatial map of this nature has been produced. The visualizations were put together using data from the Dimes project. One visualization shows the density of Internet connections worldwide while the other displays how international cities are connected. Detailed Maps of Europe and North America are included as well. It's amazing how skewed the distribution is — beyond Australia, New Zealand, and parts of South-East Asia, the southern hemisphere has only a peppering of connectivity.

Submission + - Teaching Techs how to troubleshoot. Need input!

nobuddy writes: "I have an incoming gaggle of new Help desk techs. I was tasked with getting them "up to speed" on general troubleshooting tips.

Now, I have been troubleshooting for more years than I care to admit. What comes naturally to me, and seems blatantly obvious is usually not so obvious to others. So I ask the /. community: If you were teaching new techs troubleshooting tips in an hour long session, what points would you cover?

To me, checking processes and CPU usage is as basic as telling someone to put their hand on the mouse to make it move... so enlighten me on what would be good things to teach new techs.

Sadly, this is a Windows environment."

Submission + - Asus embeds Linux on motherboard

bigzeh writes: "Reviews of boards based on Intel's X38 chipset are starting to appear on the web. It looks as if Asus have decided to embed a Linux distro on their flagship P5E3 Deluxe motherboard. Although it's not up to much more than basic web browsing and Skype calling at the moment, you would hope that Asus will either let the community create their own third party apps for the distro, or add new features to it over time. Lets hope it's the former!"

Submission + - AT&T Silences Criticism in New Terms of Servic (bellsouth.net) 1

marco13185 writes: AT&T's new Terms of Service give AT&T the right to suspend your account and all service "for conduct that AT&T believes"..."(c) tends to damage the name or reputation of AT&T, or its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries." After cooperating with the government's violations of privacy and liberties, I guess AT&T wants their fair share. AT&T users may want to think twice about commenting if they value their internet service.

Submission + - 13 y/o girl stripped by school, Court okay with it (whatreallyhappened.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Safford Middle School officials did not violate the civil rights of a 13-year-old Safford girl when they forced her to disrobe and expose her breasts and pubic area four years ago while looking for a drug, according to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling.
