No....

I had smartphones what display sizes were 3.5", 3.8", 4.2" and 4.5" and in that order. Before buying a smartphone, I just had a featurephone and I didn't use it to anything else than to make calls and SMS while it was capable for other things.
Since Android I have moved away from SMS and actually phone calls almost totally. And I wanted bigger screen because I used device more to other things than SMS/Calls. And with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" I finally came to conclusion in my habits that I don't need a small smartphone. Because then when I am jogging, hiking, working outdoor, biking etc. I don't want to carry any big screen phone with what is fragile. Then I will take a small 20 dollar basic Samsung clamp phone what is well protected and standby is one month and fits very well to pocket and isn't heavy causing it jumping.

So Why not throw away whole stupid smartphone screen problem and take 7" size what is awesome to use for the "smart" part and have a phone with me for those few normal phone calls.

And one of the main features for me has been demand for great maps and navigation (had Nokia C7 tested as well) and as Google maps is best one out there, it is pleasure to get 7" to car or bike.
And when Galaxy Tab 2 7" standby time is one month, it is great for outdoor mapping as well if wanted to get digital map for hiking.

Placing 7" device to dashboard in car makes it better than any other smartphone.

But I like bluetooth headset on my right ear as I can be cable free and I don't need to pull phone (any phone) from pocket/pack just to answer to call or make a call OR listen music.. And when you have Google maps it gives good navigation guides just with voice and no need to watch screen when driving.

I have Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" what is the true "phablet" (what Notes and others are not) and with 7" screen it is very comfortable to use when I really need to use a handheld computer for reading or writing.

And yes, it does fit perfectly to my jackets pockets, my jeans pockets or I can even place it to my backpack when I need to use such to carry something else.
And yes, I have made phone calls with it holding it on my ear and NO ONE has ever in stores looked long or weird way. As this far, people have custom to people have a mobile phones and handsfree without thinking "That person is talking to himself"

What I wish from that 3Mpix rear camera is that has a autofocus in it.
I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" and it has 3MPix rear camera what is very handy for many situations when you make notes or you want just to quickly record something and you don't need quality what you only get from DSLR or digital video cameras but it is terrible in situations where you would need to get closer than 30-40cm because missing autofocus. And that means as well you can not scan all 2D barcodes well.

Just give good 3Mpix camera with autofocus and it will be great for taking pictures to notes.

Yes you get little bars but if that is such a HUGE problem then don't buy anything.

1280x800 would really be ideal for web pages scales and sharpness but I don't mind 1024x600 resolution in 7" display, but on 10" display it is little "small".

I belive that Google has agenda behind this display. As that 3:2 and 2560x1700 demands new production line from display manufacturer, it is now second one for Apple to get "Retina" display what forces many to follow with high resolution panels.

Now if Google agenda to get 3:2 as new standard instead anyt 16:9/16:10 then it is great thing as it would be better than current ones.

Chromebook are for WWW browser, those who are fine with 1280x800 or 1366x768 displays can go and "enjoy" web.

What was problem with netbooks? Their 1024x600 resolution display at 10" screen. They were very capable for $250 computers for many things, but WWW was just terrible to use if WWW designer didn't follow the idea that page needs to be scalable to any resolution and there is no any kind hovering elements what limits visible page (all those twitter, facebook etc "share" panels are terrible).

Macbook Pro is great by look but its use really is terrible as its sharp edge on front really causes lots of pressure to wrist. Still the feel when laying hands on that computer feels great.

And you do know that you can even install Windows or other Linux distribution than ChromeOS to it? Yes the windows eats most of the computer anyways, but if there would be a way to have swappable SSD, it would be many geek wish.

That screen... It just is so much better than any 16:9/16:10 what is out there.

What some people need to know, problem is to convert existing professionals to other tools, not in the tools itself. Hell... the most of the WWW is terrible since corporations conquered it and we moved away from simple and good looking HTML sites to huge advertising competition and who designs most fancy animated page.

Some days I think we would have been much better in times when email didn't have HTML coding possibilities and discussion happened in BBS/NNTP way instead HTML forums with huge banners, "billion of links" and signatures what people abuse etc. (we can always make things cleaner and good looking but HTML was way too easy slippery sloap what was offered to so called "designers" who could make any element of picture as link).

What if Android would get something so powerful for GUI apps as what pipe is for Unix shell?

That was what I have hoped from many times as I love using KDE because I can just dran and drop files from other KDE applications without going trough "open/save".
Like I have a open dialog open in words and I notice I need to burn a few files to DVD+RW. I place disk to drive, click "K3b" option and I simply drag files from that open dialog to K3b. Or I can just Ctrl+Click to select files and right click and select "burn to disk" (okay, maybe not anymore the latter one as they limited the open dialog functions, but it use to be so).

I want to take content and modify it with other tool. Like I have file manager open or image viewer and I can just drag'n'drop image files either one to words or to instant messenger or even add them to existing ZIP file.
When do we get a change to drag'n'drop content from app itself without saving it between, to other tool? Like dragging the application icon on window decoration to mark "I want the content as it is open in this window/app, to be copied to this window/application".

It is so funny that sometimes I am watching random Star Trek TNG episodes and they don't ever do any backups. They even can delete some of the files with voice commands and then still cancel the action after few seconds.
That is something what makes Unix systems so awesome to use with files as you just "push" them where and how you like them.

I don't even know can you share content between Modern apps in Windows 8 what are splitting the screen? Like take a song from music player and drag it to other Modern app?

Comment UX & Customization (Score 3, Informative) 229

Android device makers, and the wireless carriers who offer Android smartphones to their customers, need ways to differentiate their products.

You do that mainly with hardware and with customer service.

Then you can place own custom wallpaper and custom icons, but stupid way to do is to bake them to Android framework so user can not remove them.
The correct (and smart) way would be to do a own launcher and own icon theme for it and make it available only for your hardware.
OEM could make custom look, custom functions but should always allow easily the user to swap to vanilla Android look and functionality.

Be a good OEM, support Android and give a customer change to actually like your product and use it as they want. OEM is hardware manufacturer what should focus for hardware first and then to user experience.
