Comment One Space for Me (Score 1) 814

I used to be a two-spacer for the longest time because that's what my high school typing classes taught me. Guess what's made me switch to one space? Twitter. Every character in a tweet is very precious. I couldn't spare that extra space. For consistency's sake, I've carried over one-spacing to all my other writing. And the abbreviation problem? Simple. I don't use periods for them. I've been doing that long before Twitter came around. I guess I've always found periods after abbreviations redundant. "No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die." Everyone knows Mr is short for Mister there. So I don't bother with the period.

Yes, the original intent behind carpool lanes is to reduce congestion. But California used them as an incentive for people to get fuel-efficient cars. And I have zero problem with that. California capped the number of clean-air vehicle stickers it gave out. According to the DMV site, the 85,000 stickers alloted have all been given out. No more will be issued.

If you want to avoid the sort of problem like this shovelware/bloatware, make sure to get a phone running stock Android, like the Droid or the Nexus One (for example) that hasn't had the OS itself modified by the manufacturer (like with HTC Sense or Motoblur) or by the carrier (like with the EVO).

It'd be nice if Google still sold them. :/

95%+ of the population doesn't have a problem with being locked into a contract for two years in order to save a few hundred on a phone, especially since no provider gives any significant plan discounts to those who "bring their own device" in the USA.

T-Mobile contract plans cost $20 per month more than non-contract plans. I have a Nexus One and I'm on one of those plans.

I have T-mobile and while their android phone selection is kind of sucking right now,

What about the Nexus One? It is _not_ without its problems, but it's the phone I'd buy now if I had to. And I don't have to because I'm using one (that I paid for with my own money). Full disclosure: I am a Google employee.
