For the last 9 years I've been doing embedded development; the last 7 years using a Linux desktop. Some of the devices produced by my company ran QNX until a couple years ago, but now it is all Linux. Email and those pesky "business applications" are still operating on Windows though. Rumour even has it the IT department is considering Vista.

Despite a few glimples of sunlight we're still on the dark side...

I live in Los Angeles, not far from Beverly Hills and all that. Around here Ferraris are about as common as palmtrees. I think I'd pay a lot more attention if I saw a Tata Nano.

But to me they are about equally valuable; I wouldn't want either.

If US companies want to keep US workers in the US, they should offer them so attractive working conditions (this includes working environment, good salaries, and job security for those who are concerned with such) that they don't want to leave. US citizens are free to leave the country if it suits them, and if we are to continue calling this country a "beacon of freedom" or whatever the latest slogan is, then it will have to continue to be that way.
And if Microsoft has such a hard time finding workers in the US, why aren't they looking into hiring some of Motorola's castoffs?

No, not new windshields. Cracked windshields.
If the crack is small, glass shops repair it. For this purpose they use something that starts out as a liquid and works like magic. The windshield appears to be as good as new afterwards.

But if used on cable it would probably just stick the strands together or something.

Superglue? Duct tape? Or maybe that magic stuff they use to make cracks in car windshields go away?
