What bugs me even more is that he is now found guilty, we're happy about it, and that's the last we'll hear about it. Provisions to keep this from repeating? Oversight of financial markets? Bah, what for, we got the bad guy...

No matter how many new laws you put in place, you can't completely protect stupid people from evil people. Often, the worst victims of changes to the system are those who play it fairly.

No, because software 3D positioning through HRTFs is so good anymore, that you're better off getting really nice 2-channel studio monitors.
I have actually had stronger results (more accurate 3d positioning without visual cues) this way than when I tried out a couple of my friend's surround sets.
One person I know has started calling them "Hacker Headphones", because when he plays Counter-Strike on my computer, he can locate almost every sound around him with a great degree of accuracy.
I am firmly convinced higher-than-two-channel-headphones are little more than a gimmick.

So, just get a nice set that can reproduce audio accurately. Don't waste your time with headsets made for computer use, get a nice set designed for studio use.

A nice entry level set is the sony mdr-7506. They have a pretty flat response curve and are now just under $100 on amazon.com
