Comment Dead? (Score 1) 113

Although I see a lot of FT8/4/etc CW still seems to be very active, and growing. That growth is from increasing numbers of people going QRP at POTA/SOTA/IOTA sites where CW will get the message through when little else can. FT8 is great and all, but you do need all that extra equipment, and if one is hiking up a mountain to activate it, one really doesn't want to be carrying all the extra electronics, nor the batteries to power it. 73 from VK3

What is absolutely shocking is that the police actually bothered to investigate.

I want tell you about Smith County Texas, where this happened, they got three stop Signs, two police officers, and one police car, but when we got to the Scene of the Crime there was five police officers and three police cars, Being the biggest crime of the last fifty years, and everybody wanted to get in the newspaper story about it.

I wish companies riding on the coat-tails of hysterical lot's moral panic would stop. It only encourages them to screech more. This isn't about protecting the children. A lot of these are already done in Australia and New Zealand.

No smoking in business. No smoking in public buildings. No smoking at buss, train and tram stops. No smoking in public areas of apartments. No smoking within 20 meters or so of a school. No smoking near any doorways. No smoking a car with children in it. Punitively heavy taxes (25 pack is $48.95 in 2022). Plain paper wrappers. No advertising at all, not even sport. In shops, no displays, cigarettes to be locked inside cupboards and hidden from view. the list goes on.

We can't charge more for health insurance, as there is social healthcare.

Smoking rate in New Zealand is 9.4%, Australia is 10.7%, Smoking rate in the USA is 23% This is the next logical step.

MyGOV is still optional. Honestly, even back to the 1970s when I got my first paycheck we could submit our own tax returns on paper. For many people it still lead to refunds. Still can. But for those with complex taxes in Australia, then yep an accountant helps, and the cost of that accountant is a tax deduction on the following year.

"Predition", in the dictionary, seems to have a meaning that doesn't fit in to this submitter's words. They likely need to look up the meaning to see what they have implied. However yes, when one is doing an Obit one doesn't need to add these things. The idiom "Never speak ill of the dead" comes to mind, and seems fair in almost all cases. Someone's death is not a time to sharpen one's axe.

Mostly I run Linux, but a do play a few games that can't be put under Wine. When I got this nag a few days ago and finally worked out how to escape it (that's what annoyed me most, now there was no skip/ignore), I then spent time looking for the instructions on how to remove Edge completely. A few powershell commands and my gaming install is now Edge free.
