Comment Re:Sound localizing this (Score 1) 54

Yeah, there's the other thing. You would have to train it on a couple of thousand samples. But then likely it wouldn't get confused. But who knows till you try it. I can localize fireworks explosions to a small area in a specific car park from several kilometers away. In essense if you can hear it from all the microphones and the area is within the polygon of microphones you can localize it.

Comment Re:Ads ruining slashdot (Score 1) 14

The main issue for me was not the ads or how many but the design of an ad that on the mobile rendering covered the content completely and had a close button that was too small to reliably hit. It would take me about a minute to view the actual content through a process of trying, getting directed to the advertiser, clicking the back button, reloading and trying again until you were able to hit the close ad button.

Even trying to expand my view on the content to make the button a bigger target failed because javascript would shrink it back.

No one else responded that they also had this problem, but I bet all late model iPhone users do.

This is the first time in maybe more than 20 years usage that I have had anything like this. Surely, everyone can agree that taking one minute of attempts and fails to get rid of the ad to read the content each time would cause the site to be deemed an unusable user interface experience.

I worked around it by selecting away the default "Mobile" view in my settings, then I can expand the text and push the ad offscreen.

But this is a genuine attempt to get the site developers to pay attention to a bad ad design.

Comment Booming all the time in the Netherlands (Score 1) 77

Hmm,

In the Netherlands we hear super sonic booms all the time. Likely military. Scares the hell out out people. Not a word is spoken. I guess different rules for government versus commercial.

You can tell that they are supersonic booms by observing the reactions on sites like https://watwasdieknal.nl/ and you notice a path where everyone in the path is reporting that it was very loud. Also sound localization does not make sense in these cases.

You might be wondering why I have reacted in this fashion. It's not because I'm against the rule of law, it's the exact opposite. I'm absolutely for the rule of law.

However, I had the unfortunately luck in 1995 to move squished between two other house holds. Then at a certain stage left neighbor began to hassle right neighbor (And us because we got in the way) and then 3 months later right neighbor was arrested for having a hennepplantation. The harrassment continued... against both of us, though we clearly had nothing to do with a drug bust, for the next 10 years!!!! The police wouldn't respond to our calls, all of my aangiftes were dismissed.

Finally we got out of the situation by starting regular protesting at the town hall. After two protests the council bought the guy out, with 200,000 euros of profit and dropped the massive stalking case I had amassed against him.

It took me 5 years and a complaint to the ombudsman to get the case to court. When it got to got, the prosecuted refused to put forward the majority of the 600x videos of evidence I had against the stalker to the courts and lied to the judge, suggesting that it was years of back and forth actions and that I was also going to be prosecuted. The prosecution only asked for 4 months conditional jail sentence for more than 10 years of stalking, assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, theft and more.

He was acquitted. After a collapse from dealing with then 13 years long trying to get a peaceful life I started to investigate the prosecutor. Why would a prosecutor deliberately try and get this guy free? It turned out that he was the former head of the RIEC, an organisation that co-ordinates fighting organised crime. He lived in the same tiny town of 500 people as the guy who was harrassing me. The prosecutor who was responsible for the case was the head of team interventies, it turns out that an interventie is positive, deliberate action designed to interfere with organised crime, also people who unwittingly live next door to their targets as well it seems. One of the roles of that prosecutor is to agree with the other guy who was the former head of the RIEC about which interventions that they will be carrying out.

The two of them conspired to pervert the court of justice so that their proxy who illegally harrassed us for more than 10 years would not be prosecuted. The second prosecutor left from being a judge to being on the board of directors of the court of Maastricht and was in that potential of influence when the first prosecutor pushing through a corrupt case worthy of any kangeroo court, then promptly retired. The parket secretary on the court, who works with the prosecutor, who clearly would have noticed if the prosecutor was deliberately trying to fail a case turn out in fact to be an "Interventie jurist" at the time, which explains that part.

I filed criminal charges against the first prosecutor. They were dismissed. But in the dismissal they put on paper an admission that the RIEC did indeed have a long running (More than 5 years) investigation into my neighbor but it wasn't a conflict of interest be he was the head of the RIEC only from 2013-2015 and the RIEC was investigating my neighbor between 2005-2011.

However, the prosecutor was the recherche officier van justitie fromk 2008-till 2013, the rechercher officier van is the role that decides, together with the head of team interventies which interventions they are going to carry forward. Indeed a conflict of interest thus.

A filed an appeal to the attorney general, that was also dismissed, in that letter the attorney general replied in black and white that no prosecutor can be convicted of perjury.

I was harrassed heavily for more than 10 years. It's against the law to involve a citizen in a criminal case for more than one year and they must have a contract up front and not commit any crimes.

I took the police to court and won. They appealed. I won in appeal as well. But it took 5 years. I got to view around 1000 pages of police files and in those files was confirmation of what had become obvious to me before that time, that our "stalker" was in fact involved with the government all those years, the government were facilitating criminality against innocent citizens. I had spend more than 30,000 euros over that time in trying to protect myself and it was all undermined by the government itself.

And BTW, that second prosecutor, I only found out about her deep involvement after I was watching a 6x part documentary called "De Villamoord", in which 9x innocent people were sent to jail on fabricated evidence. At the end of every episode, the have a message that (The second prosecutor), refuses to answer the investigators questions. It turns out that she was the head of the organised crime unit in Arnhein at that time, until 2010, which she became the head of the organised crime unit in Maastricht, the year that all help from the police was turned off. The chief of police told us that they were not allowed to send any police when we call and they were not allowed to investigate anything.

That second prosecutor left the prosecutor's office in July 2015 to become a judge. My stalking case was scheduled to come to court in 2017. It was delayed, apparently he was not in a fit state to appear in court. It then came to court in 2018. In the meantime however, the second prosecutor, who we had had a meeting with in 2015 after applying more an more pressure by our lawyers, had left being a judge and turned up on the board of directors, in time for my stalking case, being put forward by the prosecutor who had the role of making agreements with the head of team interventies (The second prosecutor). So the two people responsible for the illegal, pointless and immoral use of a citizen (Which was also abusive of the stalker himself, he and his family was also a victim of this) were on the two places where influence would need to be exerted.

Well. Guess where the second prosecutor is now? You guessed it... rewarded. She's now the president of the court of Maastricht.

We have never been able to hold anyone accountable, I have hundreds and hundreds of pages of evidence, the press simply do not even answer my attempts to talk to them.

Lovely country the Netherlands, country with the highest standards of integrity in their court system.

Comment ICC in the Netherlands (Score 2, Interesting) 32

The ICC is hosted in the Netherlands, a country that a few years ago made a new law that says that anyone in a profession with an obligation to secrecy cannot be prosecuted for perjury if they lie in court. And the attorney general also said that a Dutch prosecutor can never be prosecuted for for perjury.

So that means the court itself will also be running with these rules, real high integrity then.
