Submission + - NASA Loses the Lost Moon Tapes After All... 1

Namssorg writes: "According to NPR's Morning Edition, NASA may not have the 'Lost Moon Tapes' containing the raw footage of Neil Armstrong's historic first steps on the Moon, after all. The article claims that the original Apollo 11 recordings were likely erased. The historic footage was stored on telemetry tapes, which NASA had a habit of erasing and re-using to store satellite data during the 1980s. This news comes as a bit of a disappointment to many, as it is contradictory to reports over the last few weeks that the raw footage may have been found.

NASA has, however, apparently scoured the globe to find the best possible quality recordings of the original broadcast, and teamed up with Hollywood effects agencies to restore the footage to it's best possible quality.

As this seems to be in conflict with earlier reports, let's hope there was (once again) a mix-up at NASA, and perhaps another team has the real deal. Read more at NPR: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106637066"

Comment The interface and page turn animation is amazing. (Score 2, Interesting) 283

Just watching the demo video of Eucalyptus's interface makes me want to purchase it. The search methods, content organization, page zooming, and page turning seem very well designed and polished to me. Integration with Project Gutenberg is a fantastic bonus.

Disclaimer: I have no relationship with either Eucalyptus or Project Gutenberg. I'm just a very impressed hopefully-soon-to-be user.
