Networking

Submission + - Why is connectivty so cheap in Stockholm? (csudh.edu)

lpress writes: "Symmetric, 100 Mbps service in Stockholm costs $11/month. Conditions in every city are different, but part of the explanation for the low cost is that the city owns a municipal fiber network reaching every block. They lease network access to anyone who would like to offer service. The ISPs, including incumbent telephone and cable companies, compete on an equal footing."

It's no problem in educational or art context. As a rule of thumb, if Nazis would enjoy it, it's illegal, if they'd hate it, it's fine. I'm not sure if the removal of swastikas in games is actually required by law, it's hard to see how Wolfenstein could spawn an anti-constitutional movement. If anybody knows, I'd be curious.

When you look for a job, I doubt that studying in a foreign country is likely to add much, if any. It may even raise questions as to your diligence and motivation toward your career rather than fun.

How odd. Over here, having spent one or two semesters in a foreign country is almost mandatory. It shows you can rely on yourself, are open for new experiences and culturally curious. Typically, it also improves your foreign language skills.
But that might be a cultural difference right there.

OS X

Submission + - Emulated Mac OS X (csgraf.de)

Alexander Graf writes: "Have you ever been in the position of running Linux as main Operating System on your Intel Mac and you were in dire need of an OSX only program? This is no longer a problem, as I modified Qemu and KVM to run Mac OS X, so you can just boot Mac OS X in a virtual machine, just like you did with Windows anyway.
If you don't have a Mac though, don't despair. This works for non-Macs too.

@staff I don't think this is enough of a description. Please ask me something I can answer directly your readers would like to know and visit the project site, especially the FAQ section.

Submission + - Adobe open sourcing Flex SDK

An anonymous reader writes: Adobe is open sourcing their Flex product line tonight. From the article:

Adobe is announcing tonight that the Flex SDK will be open sourced under the Mozilla public license, the same license that they open sourced the Action Script VM under (the Tamarin project). The move is just the latest in a trend of an increasingly open ecosystem around Flash and Flex which started with the Tamarin project.
