They ahve the processing power to run their 1000 ship attacks in single systems. Far more than World of Warcraft where only 50 run attacks. So a single shard needs the massive bandwidth and a location where they are on the actual Internet backbone.

After the release, They made you update to play online... without an Impulse account and a registered copy, you cannot get the updates or any balancing they've made.
So, in other words. A pirated copy is a POS copy. It'll get boring really fast if you cannot patch / upgrade it.
You CANNOT get the expansion pack to Sins of a Solar Empire Unless you have a registered copy of the game.

This is sad.
I ran Linux on my computer on campus over 12 years ago. this is nothing new, people thought it was cool back than, but it's nothing now. Just something different, a way of saving money rather than purchasing your software, or only limited to the student versions that the College/University offers. Frankly I hope the student wins and this is spread nationwide as another start of people using Linux and lowering the cost of software that Developers charge big bucks for.

They run faster and you shouldn't run services on a desktop machine anyways if you worry about slowness. Put linux on an old computer, setup the LAMP, and there you go. Samba will allow you to access the files directly and you can even use the old computer as a dedicated server. No need to purchase Windows 2k3 or 2k8.

Yes, a X1900, or NVIDIA 2700 is the mid level for now. Once the next gen graphics and content come out, you need to go higher. Taking no one or 2, but 3 steps higher for a card to last 3 to 5 years.

Newspapers are not doomed, they will change from paper to another media. For now the alternate print is the Internet and cell phones. next will be large screen digital devices which will be reusable. like the Kindle from amazon, you can buy a device to read the new and your subscription would automatically be updated everyday.
If this isn't the case, than television news companies will buy the papers, so they'll have printed news.
