Lots of engineering, if not perhaps most of it, deals with limitations of shaping the physical world to our needs (imperfect materials, imperfect measurements, safety factors etc. etc.) that simply don't exists in mathematical objects like trees or graphs. Hence the similarity between "software engineering" and traditional engineering will necessarily be very limited.

Funnily enough I found myself noticing the complete opposite in the past several years. There's plenty of cheap quality games that will give you insane amount of entertainment for very little $$$ spent.
