Submission + - Assange now accused of 'Sex by Surprise' (slate.com) 2

kaptink writes: In the ever increasingly bizzar allegations that Julian Assange commited rape in Sweden, it now turns out that Assange didn't rape anyone and the prosecution know and accept this. Instead they charge with something called "sex by surprise," which reportedly carries a $715 fine. According to Assange's London attorney, Mark Stephens, prosecutors have yet to explain the charges or meet with the WikiLeaks chief to discuss them, which he's agreed to do. "Whatever 'sex by surprise' is, it's only an offense in Sweden, not in the U.K. or the U.S. or even Ibiza," Stephens fumed. "I feel as if I'm in a surreal Swedish movie being threatened by bizarre trolls."

Comment DNS terminated for 'interfering with other members (Score 1) 488

Interestingly EveryDNS says that they terminated Wikileaks DNS hosting for "violation of the provision which states that 'Member shall not interfere with another Member's use and enjoyment of the Service or another entity's use and enjoyment of similar services.' The interference at issues arises from the fact that wikileaks.org has become the target of multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks. These attacks have, and future attacks would, threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites.

Because they were the target of DDoS attacks and those attacks may harm EveryDNS's services, they terminated Wikileaks account. Sounds like a pretty weak excuse.

It will make a great movie. And I agree that the rape allegations look almost amature in that they are just so obviously crap. Well atleast the response to them is. An interpol red flag for what exactly? Why doesnt the government just man up and issue one for showing them with their own pants down.

Doesnt the bomb squad have on of those briefcase sized substance analysers like they do at airports to detect explosives? (http://www.morphodetection.com/) .. Or a hand held xray scope? (http://www.njlawman.com/Technology/Handheld-Xray.htm) .. Just a bit safer than blowing up whatever it is. What if it contained a bioweapon or a malicious wifi device that may be evidence?

Submission + - Sweden to issue new warrant for Wikileaks Assange (news.com.au)

kaptink writes: After the Supreme Court in Stockholm refused to hear an appeal by Mr Assange against the initial warrant over allegations of rape and molestation, Swedish police said they would issue a new one as a result of a procedural error with the first. Mr Assange's Stockholm-based lawyer Bjoern Hurtig said today he would fight his client's extradition to Sweden in the event of his arrest. Mr Assange's mother expressed fear for her son's safety — "I'm concerned it's gotten too big and the forces that he's challenging are too big," Christine Assange told the Australian newspaper, The Courier Mail.

Submission + - Wikileaks DDoS attacker arrested, equipment seized (thinq.co.uk)

kaptink writes: The self proclaimed hacker that waged a DDoS attack on Wikileaks has been arrested and has had all his equipment seized. What is interesting is that local police conducted the raid and not a federal authority such as the FBI. The The Jester (th3j35t3r) who has a reputation for attacking websites he disagrees with is said to be trying to raise $10,000 in expected lawyers fees. If anyone is going to be allright in the whole Wikileaks debarcle, its going to be the lawyers. Personally I think anyone who spells their nick with numbers in an effort to look 'leet' deserves to have their computer confiscated.

Jail for telling the truth, exposing the reality of whats going on with the people we pay to run the planet? And how they lie repeatedly with often there own interests as a priority? Wikileaks is just a messenger for those who want transparency and justice with only the liers and dodgy bastards with anything to worry about. Have you seen any information in the leaks that could actually help the bad guys pin down troops. Do you think the Taliban in Afganistan are all frantically browsing wikileaks on there stone carved laptops?

Its not that th3j35t3r kid again is it? Or is it the US government in disguise? I would have thought most people would want to know all the dodgy stuff the government has been lying about. I'm still straining to find this information that puts soldiers in jeperdy any more than those in Washington did in the first place. If you havent watched the Restrepo documentary that has just come out I'd highly recommend it. Couldnt help remember how GW got out of active service and then signed up these poor buggers. But back on topic, why are people so opposed to a guy just trying to show the world all the dodgy crap being pulled on us?
