But what upsets me about Android and Samsung is that the phones and the platform just suck. I hate developing on it. Terrible architecture, 1990s state of the art programming language, poor performance, terrible tools.

Well after developing for both iOS and Android I can honestly say that NEITHER have the development process down pat.

I hated Objective-C when I started but after a while I didn't mind it. Compare that to Java well I guess you're between a rock and a hard place.

I agree. The idea that your hardware is going to be fantastic even 6-12 months from it's original purchase date is delusional.

I expect that future hardware will perform better and have done so ever since buying my first 486.

I can't imagine why people who buy Apple hardware expect anything different!

Besides, you will need to be able to recharge it anyway, so why not look for something that can be put on a table with a long core for recharge?

TBH I think the OHS people would shit themselves if they ran into tablets connected to long cords for recharging.

I think the better idea is a kiosk which has more functionality, connected to power and is less likely to "walk away"

I'm sorry but loaded questions like these should never make it to the list because THERE IS NO ANSWER only OPINION!

Asking a question such as this is like asking what car is the best one for driving? It's subjective and only causes flame wars.

What's the "best"? Well, the "best" is the "right tool for the right job".

Find a language that suits the job (ie. does it require quick turn around and easy coding, go for a scripting language, if it requires scaling and enterprise level features then pick a language that suits), then if the language has frameworks that do what you need them to do, then select one based on those values rather than a blanket, "what's the best".

Everyone in here stating that one language is better than another should be sent to the naughty corner as they should well know by now that EVERY bloody language has it's pro's and con's.
