I'm not sure why this got voted down. Maybe people don't believe that this shooting was related to BLM? The mayor of Atlanta mentioned this act specifically in a plea for reduced violence in the name of BLM. The car that Secoriea was in was shot multiple time when it passed through a bockade set up by protestors.

I don't think liberals are stupid, but I think a lot of them don't understand why Trump operates as he does. Is his level of indirection here too hard to follow? The message behind the manipulated video is that CNN is so warped they would take a perfectly innocuous, and even uplifting video, and twist it to accuse Trump of racism. The calls of racism based on the video are already happening. A lot of the reason Trump got to be president was because he acted trollishly throughout the campaign, and the media couldn't resist covering him. His ability to get media attention is unprecedented. The coverage is mostly negative, but he can convince his base that it's all unwarranted, and that a vote for him is a vote against the corrupt establishment. If I don't want to hear about Trump every single day until the 2020 election is over, I'd have to go live in a cave. Do you think that's an accident?

Good point. T also has other tools at his disposal to fight dodgy copyright claim take-downs, that most regular folk don't. It's not surprising that CNN would fail to mention a "fair use" angle, given that they appear to the be the target of the post. I'm not sure how strong the legal case is for taking this down, but I don't think it's a slam dunk. I'm kind of surprised that Facebook and Twitter would feed the narrative that conservative voices are picked on on their platforms.

"Fair use" allows the use of creative works in many circumstances, even over the objections of the copyright holder. The video seems like it was posted as a joke. While parody clearly falls under "fair use", I'm not sure if this would qualify or not. Any lawyers here who can chime in? (I'm not defending the use of the video, just curious what the legal issues are.)

1. The first estimates were 2.5m dead. The anticipation was a massive overwhelming of our medical system. That was so far off the mark it's embarrassing.

Those estimates were based on knowledge at the time, and no response. There was a response, and the disease spread was slowed. Recent estimates of epidemiology of the virus is that it has an IFR (infection fatality rate) of about .7% (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/13/opinion/indiana-reopening-coronavirus-testing.html) and that herd immunity is achieved somewhere between 60% and 80% of population. This translates into about 1 million dead in the US. The first estimates were a bit high, but not embarrassingly so. I thought covid-diminishers would shut up when the fatalities went over 100,000. Boy was I wrong! This pandemic is worse than any other in the 20th century besides the Spanish flu, and we're not done yet.

Your numbers are off. The sample size is very small, and admittedly this was a population at increased risk (elderly passengers), but the number of infections was/is over 700, and the number of deaths as of March 22 is now 11. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... where it is documented down to the individuals. SARS-CoV-2 infects fast, but in some cases kills slowly, so it's too early to determine the mortality rate.

The numbers in the gizmodo article are for different things than the quotes you got from scot.gov. Both could be correct. The article qualifies that it is talking about the "energy sector", which I presume is primarily electrical generation, which is different than "all energy consumption" and heating and transport.

The electricity generation number is a bit harder to reconcile, but still possible. If Scotland only consumes 52% of the electricity that they generate (and Scotland does apparently export a lot of electricity), then they could still be powering all of Scotland from renewables, and just accounting all the non-renewable electricity-generation to their exports.
