Comment Re:I'm biased as I speak American English (Score 1) 1077

Speaking as a Swedish software developer, I don't know any local professional in the field who would even consider writing identifiers and comments in anything other than English. Documentation is a different issue where the choice depends upon the target audience: if it has a chance of being international, it's always in English.

I think the reason can be summed up in four points:
culture - IT is done in English, that's just how it is.
literature - Who would translate The Pragmatic Programmer to Swedish?
communication - It's the lingua franca of software engineering in international settings.
harmonization - All APIs are in English, so having Swedish identifiers would just look stupid and not read very well.

Funny, I was watching the same speech, and I thought he went out of his way to stress that this goes beyond the campaign. I guess I'm just retarded.

Regarding his concrete plans, he's a *politician*. None of the candidates have provided much in the way of concrete plans, much to my frustration. There is no doubt that Obama can fail to live up expectations -- hell, I don't see how he *can* -- but that goes for any new president, and America wouldn't have a separate presidential election if it was all about the issues as opposed to the person.

This will certainly be interesting.

I agree (Swede here) - I don't think Obama is the bloody Messiah, and I agree more with McCain on some issues, but damn.. I was up until 7am just to see this unfold, and seeing both McCains gracious concession speech and Obamas acceptance speech was rather emotional.

Now I'm very tired.
