If it's activated material you're worried about, you'll be waiting a VERY long time for tear down. In most PWR (more common than BWR in the states) reactors, an hour is sufficient time to allow radiation levels to approach background.
Obviously the longer the particular plant has been in operation, the higher the background will be, but you'll get more radiation from living in Denver, CO (or taking a lot of high altitude flights) for a year than you will in your time doing decommissioning on a nuclear plant.
