I'll certainly agree that the DPI thing has been blown out of proportion for marketing purposes, and I can't speak for accurate vs. inaccurate, but the Contour is just not good enough for fast games like first person shooters.

As for wireless - this is another thing that I think has been inaccurately represented. I've had some good wireless mice / joysticks / controllers which have given me no problems at all in this respect. Granted, these have all been infrared, not bluetooth, and I understand that bluetooth introduces some additional overhead. So maybe that's what people complain about? I don't know.

I have an MX Revolution. When I realized that I'd finally have to give up my Mouseman I first got myself a Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Mouse (because it was the only one I could find with three buttons) and after my third one of those died in short order (because they were shit) I got the MX Revolution. This was when I learned that not only did I have a preference for three button mice, but that it was physically painful for me to use a two button one for extended periods.

Also the Revolution didn't have a middle mouse button at all, though maybe the Performance Mouse has changed that. I did like the flying scroll wheel, that was fun, and the wireless performance with the nice little cradle was great. I would absolutely love a three button version of one of those.

I haven't used the g600, but Creative used to make something similar - the Fatal1ty Gaming Mouse. The biggest problem with those was the faulty microswitches, which made them basically unusable, but they had the same layout as the g600 with the right mouse button in the middle. Using those in Windows the answer was no, there was no way to remap the primary buttons aside from swapping right and left (for lefties). I say this baring any special utilities which may have added that functionality, and I was only using Windows at the time (using Linux now) so, you know, maybe. With the g600 though, the right button is a shift key. That's not necessarily remappable or even visible to the OS. I don't know how that's set up, maybe someone else could weigh in on that.

Also, there's no wireless version for the g600. Though it's a gaming mouse so the DPI is good.

Submission + - What does a person use for a three button mouse these days? 2

guises writes: Ever since mouse wheels were introduced the middle mouse button has been sidelined to an inadequate click-wheel function, or in some cases ditched altogether. This has never sat well with me, a proper middle button is invaluable for pasting, games, and navigation. More than that, my hand categorically rejects two button mice — the dangling ring finger causes me genuine physical discomfort. I have begged Logitech on multiple occasions to make just one, among their many screwy specialty mice, to replace the Mouseman which I loved so dearly. I thought for a moment that I had been answered with the g600, only to find that they had put the right mouse button in the middle.

So my question to Slashdot is: where does a person turn for a three button mouse these days? I've only found two, both ergonomic and priced accordingly. I use the Contour and like the shape and wheel position, but would love to find something wireless and with a higher DPI sensor.

Neither one was a "campaign" of accusations, they were just regular accusations, and the two really don't have a lot in common. Who are the people who can't take "no" for an answer? The resentful ex-boyfriend? That's what the "ex" part means, it means that he took "no" for an answer. He wasn't happy about how their relationship had gone down, but it was pretty clear that he wasn't under any delusion about it continuing.

Who's the other person who couldn't take "no" for an answer? The professor? The professor's accuser? The article didn't say how their relationship ended, and it was a little shy on details... It did say that she didn't realize that it was harassment until a year after the fact, which sorta implies that something happened to change her mind on the whole thing. That's kinda sketchy, but if we set aside the harassment label and recognize that it's not allowed for a faculty member to enter into a romantic relationship with their pupil then her criticism is valid regardless of what motivated it.

Answer: no, I don't see any parallels between this and gamergate.

I like Blomkamp a lot, but he hasn't shown any flexibility as yet. His movies, his shorts, and his commercials all have the same sort of style - it's a good style, it's refreshing, but it isn't Star Wars. According to Wikipedia the last movies Lasseter directed were Cars / Cars 2, and I don't think del Toro is really any better than Abrams.

Would Cameron have done it? I get the impression no. Whedon might have been very good, but Abrams wasn't a terrible choice for this. I am cautiously optimistic.

I grant that I wouldn't want endless stories about this sort of thing, but Walter Lewin is a special case. He's possibly the most celebrated (relatively) current physics lecturer there is - if you have any interest at all you should seek out some of the videos of his lectures, they are terrific. And that's reasonably nerdy. It's also MOOC (massive open online course) related, and that's a new thing and internet-centric.

I appreciate this update to the previous story about his removal, the lack of any sort of real explanation left me with a rather bitter taste in my mouth. It still... the new story says that all of the evidence of his transgression came from his accuser, which... well. It would have been nice if they had thrown in a line about confirming the chat logs with Facebook, and an additional something about confirming that it was indeed him who said / sent these things and not just someone who had access to his account (when I worked at a distance learning program, I had access to all of the faculties' account pages - this is what the article says he used as proof of his identity to the student). But I'm able to make the assumption that the people investigating this are not completely incompetent. I had come away from the previous story unclear on just how this harassment had taken place, so the new story gives me a bit of satisfaction in that this was indeed unacceptable behavior.

Bleh. I can't even tell if you're joking, all that my searches come up with is Gamergate stuff. There are plenty of pictures labeled Zoe Quinn, but most of them don't even look vaguely like her and the ones that do could easily have been faked.

If that's actually true then I deserve the downmods, but you certainly don't. One of us has been unjustly modded here, I don't know which.

There was a headline the other day about saying that Sony had been doxxed.

Given what they're charging for components, $100 for 4 GB RAM, $150 for a 250 GB SSD (plus the cost of the HD that it replaces), I have trouble giving them that kind of a pass. I bought a 240 GB SSD just a few weeks ago for $80.

I'll grant that it's pretty unreasonable to expect some little independent group to get by on the 5% profit margins that Dell does, but that isn't what we're talking about here: these are Apple prices. This feels exploitative.
