I agree, and the case for the executive branch regulating communications has been settled ages ago...besides, it's not like there's a lack of more significant constitutional breaches from this and past administrations to worry about already.
I think you've missed the point somewhat.. the character limit has its benefits (enforces brevity), but that's not what I'd consider the strength of Twitter these days--since the addition of the streaming API, Twitter has become an invaluable resource for gathering information in real time.
Apparently sophisticated international terrorism rings aren't as big of a threat as we've been led to believe, since the FBI seems to be more busy giving themselves congratulatory press conferences every few months for capturing the newest group of illiterate morons who've been convinced to plant fake bombs.
