Comment Tango? (Score 1) 19

Unless they also found a way to modularize the APU, then genericized it ALL with open standards, it won't sell. Think about it: what good is the portable form-factor if it REQUIRES a dedicated dock? A dock here, a dock there, look at that you've ALREADY spent more than the laptop you were gonna get. They didn't even bother to have a laptop enclosure at launch of the kickstarter, because they used that time to pick library music for their ad. It's easier than it sounds when LCD's now have genericized interfaces & an arduino could take up all prototype sensors such as laptop close sensor, battery voltage control, etc.

Comment Small court may cut it (Score 1) 526

Here's how it works. Call the BBB & all those guys, even tell Dell beforehand if you want to, just don't say anything stupid. Once all that happens, you can clearly say you've explored all avenues EXCEPT for a court appearance. THeir lawyers will either settle with you or bring you in but all you gotta do is point out a few technical concepts for the courtrom, maybe include a few Simple Wikipedia printouts, & you'll win hands down. It would help to have someone in IT act as a professional witness. If the laptop was under $500, take them to small claim court.

Usually it just means you need to start testing & data collection from scratch instead of using pounds of emperical evidence. The last thing they want are naturally-grown drugs (think hemp) they have no intellectual control or explaoitative profit revenue from. Half the shit that ends up on the market ends up to be a "patentable" analog of some other shit, perpetuated by lack of preventative or psychological health checkups, bad or misguided research, & all those fresh doctors that refuse to participate in internal medicine, without even deciding what their end career goal is.

Comment They weren't computers (Score 2) 204

They were EXPENSIVE. The customer base they were targeting is the one that's walking right past the Sony store in the mall & right into the Apple store. They never even looked right either. Always long in one dimension, usually width. Fujitsu had the better line of pocket-sized laptops hands-down, & I'm pretty sure I've never serviced nor maintained VAIO back to life.

Comment Censorship! (Score 1) 347

They could have chosen the Constitution for that one long-ass commercial that preceded the Super Bowl, but no, they use the declaration of independence. Then, get this, they cut out all the bits about the 'savage indians' & expect no one to notice. I'm no fan of centuries-old racism, but I kinda feel like they're treating a centuries-old document like a photo of Stalin & his ghost friends. Stalin has ghost friends right?

Comment Unity's been tolerable (Score 2) 503

Whenever I leave my [former-]chomebook in the bathroom when I take a shower & everything's still running right except for the mouse, I can get by until the next reboot without using it. IMO, that's a clean interface. That said, out of the box you already pretty much require unity-tweak to fix all the shit they got wrong. The opacity settings, the workspace layout, etc....
