Comment intelligence agencies are never prohibited (Score 2) 67

"The agency, like the C.I.A. and other American intelligence agencies, is prohibited by law from conducting surveillance inside the United States"

Intelligence agencies are never prohibited in reality. There are plenty of other intelligence agencies (eg, five eyes) willing to do dirty work for American intelligence agencies. Also, there are plenty of private corporations conducting surveillance inside the United States, gathering terabytes of data. The American intelligence agencies can get corporate data easily with the threat of FISA court (FISC).

Comment Truck Health Management (Score 1) 106

If I owned a trucking company, every truck would be equipped with Starlink and Truck Health Management. Similar to Boeing's system:

"Boeing Airplane Health Management (AHM) provides significant overall fuel and emission performance measures for individual airplanes, enabling operators to improve overall average fleet performance. AHM is an information tool designed by Boeing and airline users that collects in-flight airplane information and relays it in real time to the ground. The Performance Monitoring module within AHM provides automated monitoring of fuel consumption and calculation of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions."

I said "by comparison". Of course a modern hospital bed is not as expensive and complicated as a jet fighter. But modern hospital beds have a lot of features that are high tech in "comparison" to a 1959 hospital bed. Modern hospital beds do a good job of preventing pressure sores (bed sores) using computer controlled pumps, motors, and air bladders. Pressure sores can be a very serious complication.

"first rate health system"

The doctors and clinics are first rate. The supply chain system medieval. The clinics and hospitals for tourist, high level government employees and high level military are well equipped and supplied. The clinics and hospitals for ordinary citizens are bare, lacking everything from drugs to bed sheets. The hospitals for ordinary citizens are still using hospital beds from 1959. By comparison, a modern hospital bed is like a modern jet aircraft. Walk through almost any hospital in the US, Canada, UK or Europe and everything that you see is something that ordinary Cuban hospitals don't have.

I mostly agree. The 5 stars are more likely fake or a moron who wrote a review 5 minutes after opening the box. The 1 stars are more likely from morons that didn't read the product description before they purchased.

But once in a while there is an honest 1 star review from someone who knows their sh*t and has been using the product for a while. And those reviews are worth the time of reading the 1 star reviews.

If I ran the Amazon reviews, I would not accept any review except for verified purchases made 6 months ago.

It's 100% Microsoft. Mostly Microsoft cloud-based software.

Not 100% Windows. There are some solid Windows based apps. The most common way to hack the Windows OS is through email. Think about that for a minute. What should be the among the simplest of applications is the source of countless security misery.

The common person doesn't have a VP of Technology with their lips firmly attached to the azz of Microsoft. There are far more secure options than Microsoft for every known MS product or service. Millions of common people use non-Microsoft products and services every day without problems, but the "big names" can't be bothered to use those products and services because of upper management resistance.

The fact they you have the ability to report content that you find objectionable and that facebook has "community stnadrads", means facebook is a publisher and does not deserve section 230 protection.

Comment Have all the Arab Spring apps been removed? (Score 0) 381

Have all the Arab Spring apps been removed from Apple's App Store?

Recall that the Arab Spring was a series of anti-government protests, uprisings, and armed rebellions that spread across much of the Arab world in the early 2010s. There was plenty of incitement going on over social media apps that Apple had on the App store.
