The machine crashing randomly is CERTAIN to drive them away while power issue may or may not.

It cant be a quick test either. Some machines start randomly hard locking with ASPM managed by the kernel. I have one of those. Uptime can vary from 5 minutes to 3 hours.

Nasty ones. The kind you wake up from seriously relived it was a dream. High school is a special kind of hell for those of nerdy mind bent unless you are lucky enough to find other nerds to hang out with.

And IMHO... Some power wastage on some systems is less of an issue than random crashes on others. If people force ASPM and machine starts crashing, they will know what went wrong...

Machines like mine are probably the cause of the offending commit. Since maverick I had to force ASPM off on it or use lucid kernel because it caused frequent hard locks.

It is terminal because it has no cure. You will not ever get magically better. What in the end kills you can be whatever.

Just let those that want to and have nothing to live for die... My granny had Alzheimer's. My mum nursed her at our home and I watched her go from almost normal to totally gone. She died few days before my birthday seven years ago. It was sad but my mum didn't cry much, because as she said, she had been gone for a long time. The most painful time was when she could still understand things a little bit... When she could still see that everything she tried to do came out wrong... and then she was so gone that she had to wear diapers and all she could do sit there shredding paper, because cutting rags for carpet material was so ingrained into her mind that that was the last thing left... If I knew that was happening to me, Id rather die in one go. Without degrading like that... Without losing myself bit by bit knowing full well where it leads... So I full well understand my favorite author's choice. I just hope he is allowed to make it...

The only time Ive actually switched for a while was when KDE4 got stuffed into distros way damn soon. Then I spent six months in gnome and then a little bit more using kde with metacity wm... And then KDE was stable again and it was all happy times :)

Yes, I read it. But the results are also marsh gas if you take the cookie based set selection out of it.

Okay, that is a bit more sensible talk. It still boils down to "Whitelist your god damn cookies".

Read the relevant section. They tested the algorithm against browsers that had cookie indication of sameness.
"We ran our algorithm over the set of users whose cookies indicated that they were returning to the site 1{2 hours or more after their first visit, and who now had a different fingerprint."
Take that out and you get a flood of false positives.

I visited that site several times with the same browser over several weeks, each time it was unique. Some plugin had updated, some font had been installed... So for tracking me it would be totally useless. The uniqueness it identifies is only valid for a session or two.
