Submission + - Greenpeace Hates the Cloud (allvoices.com)

nathanielinbrazil writes: A report released this morning from Greenpeace claims that Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft are bad for the environment. Their data farms have a heavy reliance on coal-fired energy plants, causing substantial greenhouse gas impact on the environment. (Fifth largest contributor behind japan) "The last thing we need is for more cloud infrastructure to be built in places where it increases demand for dirty coal-fired power," said a Greenpeace spokesperson.

Great,
I blame farmville, all that trading about of farm animals.

It used to be that a man's sheep where a man's sheep... and you did not touch another man's sheep.

But, there you go... all this willy nilly trading of farm animals was bound to have a bad end!

Facebook Leads To Increase In STDs in Britain 270

ectotherm writes "According to Professor Peter Kelly, a director of Public Health in Great Britain: 'There has been a four-fold increase in the number of syphilis cases detected, with more young women being affected.' Why the increase? People meeting up for casual sex through Facebook. According to the article, 'Social networking sites are making it easier for people to meet up for casual sex. There is a rise in syphilis because people are having more sexual partners than 20 years ago and often do not use condoms.'"

It may be a small sample size, but man this is cool stuff.
From TFA, the siRNA can stop any mRNA produced protein.
Eventually, this could be huge for treatments of diseases and conditions associated with mutated proteins.
Before, they had the siRNA, but no real way to deliver them.
So, this is a double wammy!

There is a story with a video about this and siRNA

In fairness, I wrote the story, and found the video... but it I think it is very cool.

Submission + - Global Cybercrime with Corporate Cover and Benefit 2

nathanielinbrazil writes: An article on allvoices details a sophisticated corporate environment provided the look and cover of legitimacy. The operation employed hackers and gave them great salaries, benefits and bonuses in a cube farm. The Kiev, Ukraine operation, called International Marketing Ukraine or IMU has been dismantled by the United States Federal Trade Commission, but its money-maker scareware lingers.

How do you get that? I am Greek, and our health system is kind of messed up... but, the US system is a disaster.
The problems with Greece have to do, at least in a large part, with the Government futzing around so that they can be and remain part of the EU
Picking out Greece and saying the US shouldn't have a single payer system because Greece has one, and is suffering is like
saying that drinking causes lung cancer. There is an association, but it is only because drinkers have a higher percentage of smokers than
non-smokers.
Pick another example please... like how messed up it is in France, Germany, England, Italy.... oh wait, it actually sort of works in those places,
at least it works better than it does in the states.

Doctors do use metals, and silver does have antibiotic effeects....
There have not been enough good studies done, so doctors are not allowed to perscribe it.
Gold and iron are used as well as chromium, and other minerals.
In fact minerals are essential to life and if you don't get enough it is as bad as getting too much.

Does silver work... MAYBE.
