I use easy peasy on my 1000. It's renamed from ubuntu-eee but uses 8.10 instead of 8.04. It has worked much better for me than ubuntu-eee did. Not sure how it compares to eeebuntu since I just heard about that from comments here, but I'll probably give that a try tonight to make sure I'm not missing out on the fun.

HTC's ExtUSB connector has this capability while still being backwards compatible with mini USB. You can still use a regular mini USB connector in it, but it has extra pins (6 I think?) for A/V out and mic in. I have this on my Touch Pro and it works great, I believe this is also what's on the G1.

I agree, I'm currently on Sprint because there simply isn't good GSM service where I am (Vermont). If I had a choice, I'd be on T-Mobile using a G1 or an OpenMoko device.
