Comment Not exactly news (Score 1) 158

They've been throttling data usage for several months already - this is not a new thing from them. They've been testing this for a while now. They offered an "unlimited" usage plan and then began throttling almost immediately after. I don't download movies or stream music - often it's messaging and looking up information. IOW data usage. The assumption it is "selfish" is ridiculous, and knowing there are ops who redirect people to phishing sites is inexcusable and predictably immature.

At the end of the day it's a service offering AT&T and many other cell providers made available - then when they saw how big the demand was backed out of their promotions and advertising. It's exactly like them offering text for free since it is a side-band by-product of cell signals and costs them nothing until the demand was increased and they realised there would be another revenue stream.

it's called business.

Comment Notepad logging (Score 1) 314

I open Notepad (yes - gods help me) and enter ".LOG" in the first line - save and close the file then re-open it PRESTO it timestamps your entries (so long as you save and close between each entry). It ain't pretty (rather kludgy" but it works. I keep one blank as a "template" file and then "save as" for each new topic or purpose.

Submission + - MI Police reviewing cell phone data (thenewspaper.com)

babboo65 writes: Cell data is being pulled by MI police during routine traffic stops. They are asking motorists to provide their cells for analysis. Using an analyzer the police are retrieving calls, texts, images, and location information.

There is considerable concern over the unnecessary invasion of privacy even if it IS done by encouraging the "good citizen" to cough up their cells. "If you've done nothing wrong you've got nothing to hide" is a nonsensical approach to coerce these people to give up their info for no reason.

There are any number of publicly accessible (or for-fee) search sites where all manner of personal information is available. The US Government is not particularly careful about how, where, and what they store about citizens. True, the SSN was not "meant" to be used as a means of identification, but it IS used as such (hence identity theft). Like the fire team getting to the bar-be-que says, "Where's the fire"?

Having names, addresses, driver's license, voting, DOB, marriage, titles, deeds, etc ad nauseum is nothing new. Creating "new" legislation in response to such events is equally pointless as the previous "law" left unenforced.

I could start by simply asking "Is water wet"?

It would be far easier to say, "Yes, and so do the Independents, and the Liberals, and the Democrats, and the Republicans, and the Socialists . . . " Get the point? Of course any group with an agenda to popularize is going to sponsor / pay a blogger to say friendly things.

It's no different than advertising - it's no different than a billboard or a web ad.

It's a fools mission to try and argue this or to even belabor it with any discussion. If you don't see that the liberal agenda is popularized by the liberal media, and likewise a conservative agenda, and so forth you are sadly mistaken. No matter how you slice it it comes down to a propaganda machine. The media and advertisers try to push and pull your opinions in any way they can to sway your decision. If they can cause even the slightest shift in your POV they have been successful. So don't be surprised by it.
