In any historical discussion on slashdot, it's only a matter of time until the gourd-deniers show up. Bunch of crazies. They're the only group more persistent than creationists and more dense than global warming deniers.

That their out-of-print books from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, that are currently making them ZERO money, could be sold for $2-$5 as pdfs. There are hundreds of books that I would like to buy, but since they are out of print (and weren't cheap to begin with and had small print runs), they cost in the rage of $70+. This means that I simply don't buy them. This means that no one makes money of my desire to own these books. What a waste.

I will never understand the "there can't be life there because most of the life from our planet couldn't survive there" argument. I think it's perfectly reasonable that life could evolve elsewhere without water. In fact, quite likely. Life will adapt to the conditions from which it emerges, not seek to replicate life on earth.

Thanks for pointing that out. Anyone who describes The Girl in The Fireplace as "whimsical" is certainly not to be trusted. I just watched the show and the other review was much closer to my response.

I work in education. If I had a student say they were looking forward to killing someone in my class, I'd be concerned. And if they DID kill someone in my class, everyone would be posting here saying, "Jeez, didn't you all see the clear signs posted on the internet? Why didn't anyone do anything?"

The longer you're there, the more you'll realize that what's on display isn't the point, but HOW it's displayed. Also, they have a tea room upstairs that serves "real" tea, cookies, and occasionally live accordion music.
