Comment fallacy (Score 1) 236

Changing passwords regularly has been found to be more of a security risk than not changing them and having a more restrictive password policy. I've had informal discussions with a number of people at various companies where password changing every 3 months causes more problems with lost passwords and written down passwords.

Surely there's solid medical need for beer while ice fishing and the FAA by blocking said delivery is putting the lives of those who do it in serious danger. I mean obviously anyone who Ice Fishes is nearly insane, and probably near hypothermic death. In addition it's been scientifically proven that you'd be a lot warmer and a lot happier with a bellyfull of mead.

If I was going to do something crazy, I'd look at getting rid of our screens, and replacing it with voice. That means probably doing better with voice generation, and leveraging and improving voice recognition. I have a thought or two about the idea at a basic level, but I don't have the programming or theoretical chops to make it happen. That would be neat though to see something go that way. Granted that's not all that crazy as evidenced by the movie "Her" but it's a start in the direction Woz was talking about.

This response seems to miss the point where the conspirators were using their cell phones and text messages to copy and move around these test answers. This is certainly the easiest thing to track since technically SMS messages are actually cell phone meta-data, and it's already text that can be indexed and searched. This Air Force cheating ring is exactly what the NSA should be doing. Plus one for the question, "Where was the NSA?" Maybe they're cheating on their tests too via SMS.

This is pretty accurate historically. Examples include Intel, Dell, Samsung, Apple, Cisco, Sony, Logitech, etc. Basically if you make hardware you are typically an absolutely terrible software maker. It isn't even about the developers, it's about management, who's always in the way of innovative software development. It works conversely as well, historically software companies don't do hardware very well either, look at Microsoft, and Google, they both send out their hardware to others to be made.

In that vein, I issue you a full pardon for whatever crimes some people may think you've done, I also want to thank you for your help in identifying these issues that my administration has continued to perpetrate. You are a man of great integrity, honesty, and owner of the biggest set of cohones next to Jack Ryan that I've ever known. Not only is it a great honor to meet you in person to offer you this sorry excuse of an explanation, but in addition, I'd like to offer you a free home on Federal land, and a generous allowance to live out your life on US soil as you legally see fit. It would be my hope that you would also accept an offer of permanent employment with the Federal Government in a role of Homeland Security Watchdog where you can continue your work of protecting our people from ourselves going forward." That's kind of the gist of what should happen.
