Submission + - China lifts 13 year console ban (techienews.co.uk)

hypnosec writes: China has lifted the 13 year old gaming console ban, which it imposed back in 2000 as a way to protecting nation’s youth from unhealthy content that may adversely affect their mental health. The temporary lift of the ban, which was pronounced on Monday by the State Council of PCR, will make way for international console vendors including Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to setup production facilities in the newly created Shanghai Free Trade Zone and sell their consoles throughout the country. The vendors will still have to go through local checks including the ones from the Cultural authorities to ensure that they don’t violate any of the rules set by them.

Submission + - Chicago Gun Ban Declaired Unconstitutional (cnn.com)

wooferhound writes: - A federal judge ruled Monday that Chicago's ban on virtually all sales and transfers of firearms is unconstitutional.

"The stark reality facing the City each year is thousands of shooting victims and hundreds of murders committed with a gun. But on the other side of this case is another feature of government: certain fundamental rights are protected by the Constitution, put outside government's reach, including the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense under the Second Amendment," wrote U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang.

And yeah, it's high time we started doing that with the PC/monitor power cables as well. Almost every computer owner has at least an extra half dozen of them. There's no reason for manufacturers to include something that's been standard forever. I'm surprised it hasn't already been done for the cost savings.

What's the cost savings? $1? What's the cost? 10 - 50% of your customers losing their shit when they can't plug in their new PC/monitor and complaining to the retailer, calling the manufacturers support line, and/or leaving bad reviews online. Yeah, I wonder why they don't do that.

Very sorry we killed your child and your dog during our raid sir, false positives are a tragedy but we can't let the terrorists and drug dealers win can we? Next time don't flush that expired cough syrup and prescription drugs, call our chemical disposal unit for the proper forms first, and if you have anymore kids be sure to teach them to lay face down on the floor and pray when unknown people break in in the middle of the night instead of screaming and crying!

So why would I bother trying to counterfeit the newer more difficult bills instead of just doing the older easier ones since they remain legal tender?

As the years go by the older notes will get less common, especially new looking old notes.

I was at a casino once and this guy put a stack of crisp old style 100s on the table. The casino employees spent 15 minutes inspecting them, calling others over to look at them, etc before they accepted them.
