Comment Not all geeks are fat (Score 3, Interesting) 201

Perhaps I've been spoiled living in Colorado my whole life, but that vast majority of "Geeks" that I've worked with here are the fittest people in the companies I"ve worked for. From marathon runners, to long distance cyclist, to yogis, to (obviously in Colorado) hard core skiers. Other offices in the company do have less fit geeks but over all I'd say they aren't any worse than the average employee in the company.

I think the perception of translucent/Mountain Dew drinking/Pizza&Cheetoes eating geeks is a little old and incorrect.

The problem with this is that you need to be outside the universe in order to do so

How about recursion? An atom is kind of like a solar system, a solar system is kind of like a galaxy, and a galaxy is kind of like the universe. (And perhaps the universe is kind of like the multiverse?)

I kind of jest, but not necessarily.

First, don't jump the second they need help. It may sound sadistic, but let them suffer for a while with their mistakes. Make them pay for the consequences of doing stupid things. Second, if the first doesn't work, make them pay (money) for it. Make their mistake hit their wallet. If you don't want to charge them (i sure as hell wouldn't), make them buy expensive antivirus. Make them have consequences. We have all seen spoiled children who are never disciplined. They never learn life lessons. They get everything they want. Make them live with their OWN mistakes. If they don't have consequences, what is their motivation to learn how to live on the web?
