Comment I would buy a Kindle, if Amazon sold them to me... (Score 1) 503

I cant buy a Kindle in Portugal, Amazon UK (Which is on the EEU) doesn't ship Electronics to Portugal, why? Never understood, there are no borders (as stated in EEU commerce laws) so I can't understand why they wont sell me a Kindle. :\
On the other hand, Books will always have a place in my home, but I can't take 4 or 5 books when I go on vacancies, but I can easily take a Kindle with me.

Comment I will pay 50â for a good remake of Wing Comm (Score 2, Interesting) 142

Wing Commander was and his a great game. The story line did got a bit cheesy, it looked like a Sopa Opera towards the end, but it was fun, it was great and it even had Mark Hamil. I believe it was on Wing Commander II that your carrier got destroyed right at the start. Great storyline. Epic I would say http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Commander_(video_game)

Comment Windows will endure. (Score 1, Insightful) 817

Truth is Windows will be around for a long long time, even if not on the home business, there is just too many corporations relying on windows for it to sink. I do believe the user base at home will decline heavily (Free Product vs Highly priced crap), but the corporate business wont trust a Google OS for many years to come. Big companies (Banks specially, I work at one) are very slow adopters.

Why Linux Is Not Yet Ready For the Desktop 1365

An anonymous reader writes "Every now and then a new- or old-media journalist tries to explain to everyone why Linux is not yet ready for the desktop. However all those men who graduated from their engineering universities years ago have only superficial knowledge about operating systems and their inner works. An unknown author from Russia has decided to draw up a list of technical reasons and limitations hampering Linux domination on the desktop." Some of the gripes listed here really resonate with me, having just moved to an early version of Ubuntu 9.10 on my main testing-stuff laptop; it's frustrating especially that while many seemingly more esoteric things work perfectly, sound now works only in part, and even that partial success took some fiddling.

Comment I've made a word up and its still there... (Score 0) 391

About a year ago, while making a blog entry, I decided to make a word up. As a side joke, I decided to link it to Wikipedia, so I went there and created the word and its meaning, both in English and Portuguese Wikipedia. One year afterwards, my make up word is still on the Portuguese Wiki.
The one on the English Wiki was removed a few minutes after I wrote it and I received a friendly warning from the editor, something on the lines of "I laughed a lot with your entry, but I cant allow it, since its bogus".

Comment Get a new government elected (Score 1, Insightful) 488

The fault is on the current elected officials. If they were present at parliament like they are supposed too, this would not happen. We vote for them to be at parliament, not for them to go only they feel like it. Even if the vote would only take place next week, its their obligation to be at parliament. Pity its never like that, not in Portugal and not in France it seems...
