Submission + - UN Attacks Free Speech (newsblaze.com) 1

newsblaze writes: "The UN Human Rights Council Assaulted Free Expression today, in a 23-11 vote that urges member states to adopt laws outlawing criticism of religions. The proposal came to the UN from Pakistan, on behalf of the Organization for the Islamic Conference. There were 13 abstensions. South Korea, Japan, India, Mexico and Brazil, all strong democracies, allowed this to pass by abrogating their responsibility. While the resolution doesn't mention the online world, where does this subject get mentioned most, if not online."

Comment Absolutely useless against true fanatics. (Score 1) 369

Just like lie detector tests are useless against most sociopaths, this type of crap is useless against true fanatics, people who are calmly resolved to their fate. Instead of dumping billions of dollars into creating a better curtain, how about fixing the shit behind it? P.S. Apologies in advance to those who didnt get the Wizard of Oz reference.

Comment As an industry insider I got to say this... (Score 2, Interesting) 195

Abit is chiefly responsible for its own demise. Their modus operandi of shipping huge inventories to large retailers and essentially consigning them is what killed them. Large retailers historically only paid Abit for what was sold, as it was sold, and when the bills came due they would cut the check for the sold goods and ram the rest of the aged, consumer handled, distress packaged merchandise down Abits throat. Abit would then sell those units at a huge discount to secondary channel liquidators who would release the products to the public at a fraction of the retailers price, thus cannibalizing retail even more and overextending Abit. This went on for years and the company declined. In the end they tried to switch to a much more agressive payment structure and were dumped by majority of retail outfits. If they controlled their inventories and channels tighter they would still be around. Sad, but thats basic business.

Not sure why you got modded Flamebait, since you gave a nod to the Linux Backtrack 3. Well I guess I am going to get modded down too, since I am using the XP version of ASUS Eee PC EPC1000HA. It has much brighter screen than my bosses 701. The screen is NICE, wish it was 1024x800 but 1024x600 is not bad. The 10" NetBook *IS* more functional, for starters the hard drive is big enough to fully patch XP without having to delete apps. I am running 2GB with every program I need to work and travel. ASUS is clearly learning, and adjusting to the demand, thats not called a bias, its called a Business.

Journal Journal: Some quotes are timeless, was reminded of these today.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
