His band, Shellac, is pretty good. I like it anyway. And I would imagine that he was asked to do this interview and just gave his opinion. However, he does seem like he really is a knowitall asshole (he would fit right in here), so I won't defend him to vigorously.

He is certainly already in a position to convince hipsters that it is the best way to do it. It would be a good way to make a lot of money.

You originally said that the world is not better off now than it was during the cold war. Now your posts seem to be saying that you just meant that life in Russia during communism wasn't as bad as it was made out to be in the west. Of course it wasn't. Also, I wouldn't call the US out for being a homophobic society...glass houses and stones kinda thing.

There is always an easy answer to any geopolitical issue. It is the USA's fault.

My first thought upon reading that was also "there is no way you were really alive during the cold war". This is the internet, everything is the fault of the USA. We would be living in a perfect utopia if only one of the more enlightened countries, like Russia (try reading that with a straight face), were in charge.

People in the comments to that story, before it started flaming up, say that lab mice are absolutely not fed the same things they were 40 years ago. I am, of course, not taking that as the truth, but I would like to know more about that if any /.ers know about this. That is the best point in the whole story, IMO

Looks like landing is all about catching the tailhook, and planes are very strong for certain stress. The takeoffs look like maybe they put just enough power into the catapult to get it in the air? I can't tell if there is a catapult there...but I would assume there has to be.

I remember a press conference with Colin Powell where he was asked what he thought of the SR-71 being cancelled. He said with an obvious 'I am answering your question even though I am not answering it ' smile that "that is a political question".
