Comment Great game - Fun Co-op (Score 1) 78

When I was a kid, my step-brother and I would spend hours playing this game "co-op." One of us would take charge of the movement joystick while the other took the firing one. It was great fun yelling back and forth about where to go and what to shoot. Try it with a friend some time.

I dunno if you're a geek or not when you can't figure out how to switch "(neglect due to interest in sports, etc.)" to "(neglect due to interest in Linux/gaming, etc.") Sorry to break your "Geek" heart but you don't need special books because you're a geek.

I hope your marriage works out. Really, I do. I've just had my fill of people that need "Tags" and live their lives around them.

It seems every day now I end up stopped behind some idiot who's too busy texting on the phone to realize he's sitting at a damn green light. Or I watch some soccer mom weaving around in her SUV with the telltale hand to the head posture.

It used to be that here in the south that when you saw a car weaving around it was from good old fashioned drunk driving! WTF happened?!

Comment This is how Sprint responded to my inquiry (Score 2, Interesting) 543

From their support email:

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Sprint regarding the Palm Pre handset. We really appreciate your interest in our new products.

You can certainly purchase the Palm Pre handset without providing the SSN Number. However, to use this handset you are required to add this handset on any existing Sprint account of your family member or friend (if any).

In case, you wish to open a new account on your account, then you need to provide us the Social Security Number as per the FCC guidelines.

Thank you again for contacting Sprint and have a nice day."

So they claim it's an FCC guidelines requirement. True?

It's all political.

I was going to post a large list of things that piss me off about the industry but hell we all know what they are. Every policy is driven by greed. I won't pay anyone for that. So yeah if they gave me a reason to want to buy from them then I would gladly do so.

I will say that when I'm visiting Asia I buy music ALL THE TIME (admittedly from select labels) because the price is reasonable, the quality of mainstream music is better, you can get the music very easily and in many ways. I also buy movies there because of the same reason. I like that I can pick up a legit english version of a movie on VCD at the same time that the movie comes out.

Meh it's the same ole western greed system that's in place in about every industry. In Asia I can buy a killer mobile phone, pick whatever carrier I want, use prepaid or some sort of plan, not be forced into a multi-year contract just to get a decent phone or rate, have far better access to internet and other features, and get far, far, far more functionality out of the phone. Because the opposite is true here in the states, I don't even bother having a mobile.

My $0.02. Cheap!

Comment Ubuntu? (Score 1) 682

I've used Linux on and off for a dozen years but it wasn't until I installed Ubuntu, after trying a dozen other distros, that I finally ditched my Windows partition. It's not perfect and it still takes some tweaking to get everything working but finally I can accomplish just about everything I want to.
