Comment Why are these ads so huge (Score 1) 308

These slashdot ads literally take up 40% of my screen, its 'hard to read and scroll.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to close it so i can actually read or should i just stop coming here altogether.

10 years and im ready to throw in the towel because of those absurdly sized ads. scrolling is too frustrating and its too hard to read.
bye slashdot.

Impulse on youtube was the best series I saw from 2018

I really liked the cbs show Star Trek discovery - it was a shameless rip off of sci-fi's Dark Matter but with higher production value and an improved 2.0 script.

Sean William Scott (Stiffler) has been really entertaining on Lethal Weapon as a replacement for the lead in season 3.
You can jump right into season 3 and don't need to watch the first two seasons. That dude is great, loved him in the film "before I go" too

Okay so movies.. I haven't seen any movies this year that are good enough to go down in history

When a omnidirectional treadmill for VR gets to a reasonable price range and functions seamlessly then VR will be amazing.
Right now it's pretty stupid to stand in place and move your thumbs around.. it's uncomfortable to stand in one place without moving, but walking is awesome exercise and people will love it if they can walk and game.

Comment Mouse VR (Score 1) 68

Yes the people with mouse and keyboard are superior in FPS if you go head to head, it's true.
The people in VR would lose.

But learning to kill people with a mouse is absolutely silly in comparison to learning to kill people in reality.
the only head-to-head advantage in VR is that you can actually dual wield guns, you can shoot two pistols and two different targets at the same time.

Finally we can get a user base in all of these empty multiplayer games!
Too bad it's not out in time for christmas, this is something you can gift to someone without worrying about what kind of GPU their computer has.

It's a great and necessary step forward.
Get enough users that major creators like rockstar, blizzard, supercell, etc start to develop games for VR.

Get these new people addicted to VR with the Quest and then they'll be lining up for the premium experience when generation 2 rift is released.

spending money on an activity is not a consequence, it's the way of the world.
in fact people rack their brains trying to think of activities that don't cost money because costing money is such a common occurrence for activities.

I don't think you can list that as a "consequence"
as far as people assaulting them you could say the same for the internet, people can troll a troll right back.

i'm talking about legal consequences because ... uhh.. that's the topic here isn't it?

Honestly it's such a nuanced game it's hard to say without watching a replay for myself on the hero selection process.
I've heard there were no bans. IDK if the selection process was legitimate or if computers got to pick their entire team beforehand ?

In either case, yes, in due time a hive mind will have much better reaction time in unison than five humans can ever hope to achieve.

Comment Re: All t his was covered, people don't listen (Score 1) 99

exactly. if we're talking about having the screen flash and you press a button then yeah a human can hit 200ms. but when you have the unexpected, rounding a corner and encounter one of 5 enemies and have to stop what you were doing, make a fight or flight decision based on teammate map positioning, move the mouse into the correct position for your decision, etc you might need a half a second to react appropriately.

Even at that 200ms time the computer doesn't need to move a mouse right? Physical reactions are part of reaction time too.
